THESE EXPERIMENTS, IT IS TRUE, ARE NOT EASY; STILL. THEY ARE IN THE POWER OF EVERY THINKING HUSBANDMAN. HE WHO ACCOMPLISHES BUT ONE, OF HOWEVER LIMITED APPLICATION, AND TAKES CARE TO REPORT IT FAITHFULLY, ADVANCES THE SCIENCE, AND, CONSEQUENTLY, THE PRACTICE OF AGRICULTURE, AND ACQUIRES THEREBY A RIGHT TO THE GRATITUDE OF HIS FELLOWS, AND OF THOSE WHO COME AFTER. TO MAKE MANY SUCH IS BEYOND THE POWER OF MOST INDIVIDUALS, AND CANNOT BE EXPECTED. THE FIRST CARE OF ALL SOCIETIES FORMED FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF OUR SCIENCE SHOULD BE TO PREPARE THE FORMS OF SUCH EXPERIMENTS, AND TO DISTRIBUTE THE EXECUTION OF THESE AMONG THEIR MEMBERS. DIRECTIONS TO BINDER.

The Binder is desired to collect together all the Appendix matter, with
Roman numeral folios, and place it at the end of each volume of the Journal,
excepting Titles and Contents, which are in all cases to be placed at the be-
ginning of the Volume: the lettering at the back to include a statement
of the year as well as the volume; the first volume belonging to 1839-40, the
second to 1841, the third to 1842, the fourth to 1843, and so on.

In reprints of the Journal, all Appendix matter (and in one instance an
Article in the body of the Journal), which at the time had become obsolete,
were omitted; the Roman numeral folios, however (for convenience of refer-
ence), being reprinted without alteration in the Appendix matter retained.
