EPILOGUE. LADIES, by me our courteous author sends The painted clouds, which glittering tempt the chase, But a mere sister, whom he lov'd-to take AN HISTORICAL ROMANCE. BY John GENERAL BURGOYNE. Michel Jean Sedale LONDON: PRINTED BY C. WHITTINGHAM, FOR JOHN SHARPE, OPPOSITE YORK HOUSE, PICCADILLY. 1804. ADVERTISEMENT. IN adapting the following scenes to the English stage no adventitious matter has been introduced; some liberty, however, has been taken in effecting the principal incident of the piece; the discovery of Richard's confinement being now given to Matilda in place of Blondel, as well to increase the interest of the situation, as to avoid the lefs affecting interposition of the heroine in the latter part of the drama.-The elegant author of this Romance will pardon a freedom which has been taken with no other view than that of giving the best afsistance of our stage to his admired composition. |
