A sacrament is an outward sign, appointed by Christ, of an inward grace.

(Rom. 4. II.)

88. How many sacraments are there?

There are two sacraments: Baptism and the Lord's
Supper.

89. What is the outward sign in Baptism?

The outward sign in Baptism is water applied in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

(Acts 8. 36; 10. 47.)

90. What is the inward grace signified by Baptism?

The inward grace is the cleansing of the heart by the

91. Who should be baptized?

Little children should be baptized, and all who accept
Jesus as their Saviour.

For the promise is unto you, and to your children.-
Acts 2. 39.

Acts 8. 36, 37.

92. Why should little children be baptized?

Little children should be baptized because they belong to Christ, and are members of his kingdom.

But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for such is the kingdom of heaven.-Matt. 19. 14.

93. What is the outward sign in the Lord's Supper? The outward sign in the Lord's Supper is bread and wine used in memory of the death of Christ.

94. What is the inward grace signified by the Lord's

Supper?

The inward grace is our union with Christ by faith, whereby we receive strength from him for the duties and trials of life.

John 6. 56.

95. What is the further purpose of the Lord's Supper? To signify that all the disciples of Christ are one family in him, and to show his death till he come. For we being many are one bread, and one body.I Cor. 10. 17. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.-1 Cor. II. 26.

96. Should all Christians unite in this Holy Communion? They should; for Jesus commands, "This do in remembrance of me."-Luke 22. 19.

VI. DUTIES TO GOD AND MAN

97. What is the first commandment?

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me."-Exod. 20. 3.

98. What is the second commandment?

"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments."-Exod. 20. 4-6.

99. What is the third commandment?

"Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”—Exod. 20. 7.

100. What is the fourth commandment?

"Remember the Sabbath-day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath-day, and hallowed it.”— Exod. 20. 8-11.

IOI. What is the fifth commandment?

17.

107. What commandments of Christ include all these duties?

Jesus said, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. 110. What is it to repent?

It is to be sorry for our sins, to forsake them all, and to turn to God.

III. What is it to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ?
