wondrous bright Ascension; through the coming of the Comforter,

O Lord Jesus, deliver me.

For the glory of Thy Name; for Thy loving Mercy, and for Thy Truth's sake, O Lord Jesus, deliver me.

O Prince of Peace, give me Thy Peace. Have mercy on me, O Lord, Thou Son of David, in times of sorrow and suffering when the soul dies down within, when it strives to cry to Thee, but seems to fall back in utter weariness upon itself; then O Thou, Who hast redeemed and not abhorred my soul, watch over Thine own sacrifice; then may every cry of the aching heart be a cry for mercy to Thee, O my Lord and my God; for Thou art the Son of God, and Thou canst help me; for Thou art the Son of Man, and Thou wilt help me, for Thou art touched with the feelings of our infirmities. Our miseries brought Thee down from Thy heavenly glory to help us ; and the sound of our weeping goes at once to Thy sympathizing Heart.

In the hour of death,

Good Lord, remember me.

O forsake me not when my soul is full of trouble, and my life draweth nigh unto the grave. When all human aid can do no more for me, then haste to help me, O God of my salvation, then leave me not desolate, O my own tender Comforter, then come quickly,

O Lord Jesus! Bear Thou mine agony. . . Let not the pains of Death conquer my trust in Thy Divine Sympathy suffer me not, through fear of Death to fall from Thee, O my Life. Then may my faith rest firmly on Thy sacred words, He that believeth on Me shall never die. . . Soshall my unclothed soul pass safely within the veil, and sweet shall be my sleep in Thee.

When that hour for which the Angels are longing, and the Church is praying, and all creation groaning and travailing, is verily come, when Thou comest in Thy Kingdom, Good Lord, remember me.

Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world,

Spare me, O Lord Jesus.

Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world,

Hear me, O Lord Jesus.

Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world,

Have mercy on me, O Lord Jesus.

Thou, O Lord God Almighty, art my Father, my Redeemer, the Fountain of Living Waters. O hear me, for sweet is Thy Mercy: O hold Thou me up lest my spirit fail me before the dazzling purity of Thy Law, the height of Thy Divine Majesty, the depth of Thy righteous Judgment. Through the Lord Jesus. Amen.

PRAYER FOR PREPARATION

We would see Jesus

HOLY FATHER, for His dear sake Who maketh intercession for the transgressors, I pray that every day of my life I may see by faith the blessed Face wherein we behold Thy glory; may bear in memory all Thy Holy One hath spoken, done, suffered for me, especially now, when I desire to approach Him in that Holy Mystery which, ever mindful of our necessity, He ordained before He came to Thee, -to enter the kingly presence of my nearercoming Lord, stretching forth the hands of a trembling faith, that I may receive healing Virtue from that Body which was the fair and marvellous shrine of the Glory He had with Thee before the world was.

Hear me, O most loving Father, and receive my prayer, even the Prayer Thy Wisdom taught me. Our Father.

A MEDITATION ON THE HOLY EUCHARIST

The Cup of Blessing which we bless, is it not

I

the communion of the Blood of Christ? The Bread which we break, is it not the communion of the Body of Christ?

ADORE Thee, O Blessed Jesus, my Lord and my God, when I consider what that Holy Sacrament is to which Thou now invitest me, and of what parts it consists; of an outward and visible sign, and of an inward and spiritual grace. For Thou, Lord, Who knowest our infirmities, and how little able we are to conceive things heavenly and spiritual, in pity to our dark and feeble apprehensions, hast ordained outward, and obvious, and visible signs to represent to our minds Thy Grace which is invisible; Thou hast ordained Bread and Wine, which is our bodily food, to picture out to our faith the Food of our souls.

Lord, increase our faith.

I know, O my God, that I must look through the outward Elements, and fix my faith on that which they represent, and which is the inward and invisible Grace, even Thy own blessed Body and Blood.

But tell me, O Thou Whom my soul loveth, how canst Thou give me Thy Flesh to eat?

Lord, Thou hast taught me that Thy Words, they are spirit and they are life, and are therefore not carnally to be understood.

I believe Thy Body and Blood to be really present in the Holy Sacrament, and to be verily and indeed taken and received by the Faithful in Thy holy Supper, though the manner of Thy Mysterious Presence I cannot comprehend. . . Lord, I believe that the Bread that we break, and the Cup that we drink, are not bare signs only, but the real Communion of Thy Body and Blood, and Pledges to assure me thereof; and I verily believe that if in repentance and faith I come to Thine Altar, as certainly as I receive the outward signs, so certainly shall I receive the inward Mystery, even Thy most blessed Body and Blood; to receive which inestimable Blessings, O merciful Lord, do Thou fit and prepare me. Amen. Amen.

I adore Thee, O blessed Jesus, my Lord, my God, when I consider that this Holy Sacrament was Thine own Institution; for it was Thou, Lord, Who in the night Thou wast betrayed, didst take Bread, and after that the Cup, and didst bless them and give them to Thy Disciples. O blessed Saviour, let the remembrance of this strike into my soul a holy awe and reverence in approaching so adorable a mystery. Amen. Amen.
