PREFACE.

It is a highly beneficial, and, it is to be hoped, not a very unusual practice, to read some portion of the Holy Scriptures at the hour of rest. Children, and persons not well acquainted with every part of the Bible, are, however, often at a loss what portion to choose, and it is to meet this need that the following compilation has been made.

Seeing tben that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness ; looking for and hasting unto the coming of the Day of God, wherein the heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat ? Nevertheless we, according
