On Thursday evening the Eddystone bearing N. E. twelve leagues, I captured a little privateer from Ryfco, called the Emprunt Foffe; had only two fmall carriage-guns, fix fwivels, and 25 men on board; she' had been out but one day, and had taken nothing.

Our main-maft and fore-maft being wounded, and both of them fifhed, and much of the ftanding rigging fo injured that it is neceffary to replace it, I thought it would be expediting the service to steer di- · rectly for this port, inftead of Falmouth; and I hope my having done fo will meet their Lordships' approbation.

I HAVE the honour to inform your Lordship, that his Majefty's fhips Anfon and Mermaid joined me on the night of the 5th inftant, the former having captured the French frigate the Daphne, on the night of the 29th of December; for the particulars of which I refer your Lordfhip to Captain Durham's letter, herewith enclosed.

This capture gives me much fatisfaction, as the Daphne was the only British frigate in the poffeffion of the enemy.

The alacrity with which he was discovered, chafed and taken poffeffion of, upon a lee flore, on the coast of Arcaffon, reflects (in my opinion) much credit upon Captain Durham.
