Shall fuperintend the adjustment and preservation of the
public accounts-fhall examine all accounts fettled by
the auditor, and certify the balances arising thereon to
the register-shall counterfign all warrants drawn by
the secretary of the treasury, which fhall be warranted
by law-fhall report to the fecretary of the treasury the
official forms of all papers to be issued in the different
offices for the collection of the revenue, and the man-
ner of keeping and flating the accounts of the perfons
employed therein-shall provide for the regular and
punctual payment of the monies which may be collec-
ted, and may direct profecutions for all delinquencies of
officers of the revenue, and for the debts due to the Uni-
ted States

His duty is to receive and keep the monies of the United

States, to disburse the fame on warrants drawn by the
Secretary of the Treafury, counterfigned by the comp-
troller, and registered by the register-to take receipts
for all monies paid by him, and all receipts for mo-
nies received by him fhall be endorsed upon warrants
figned by the Secretary of the Treafury-to render his
accounts quarterly to the Comptroller, or oftener if
required; and when fettled, to tranfmit a copy there-
of to the Secretary of the Treasury, and to lay before
Congress, on the third day of every feffion, copies of
accounts fettled with the comptroller, and a true ac-
count of the state of the Treasury-to fubmit the in-
fpection of all monies in his hands to the Secretary of
the Treasury, and the Comptroller or either of them;
and fhall give bond, with fureties to the fatisfaction
of the Secretary of the Treasury and Comptroller, in
the fum of one hundred and fifty thousand dollars,
for the faithful difcharge of the duties of his office,
to be lodged in the office of the Comptroller

ordered for the ufe of the department of war, by war-
rants from the Treasury, upon warrants from the Se-
cretary of War, counterfigned by the accountant

Auditor.

Auditor fhall receive all public accounts, and, after examination, certify the balance, and tranfmit the account, with the vouchers and certificate, to the comptroller for his decifion thereon. If any perfon fhall be aggrieved with the decifion of the auditor, he may, within fix months, appeal to the comptroller i. 38

Shall keep all accounts of the receipts and expenditures of the public money---of all debts due to or from the United States---to receive from the Comptroller all accounts which fhall have been finally adjufted; and to preferve them, with their vouchers and certificates---to record all warrants for the receipt of payment of money at the treasury, certify the fame thereon, and to tranfmit to the Secretary of the Treafury copies of the certificates of balances adjusted i. 38

Commiffioner of the Revenue

Shall fuperintend, under the direction of the Secretary of the Treasury, the collection of the internal revenue, confifting in duties laid on the manufactures and products of the United States, and to perform fuch other fervices, being conformable to the conftitution of the department, as the Secretary of the Treasury fhall direct

Purveyor of Public Supplies

Shall, under the direction and supervision of the Secretary of the Treasury, conduct the procuring and providing of all arms, military and naval ftores, provifions, clothing, Indian goods, and generally, all articles of fupply requifite for the United States iii. 175 Shall give bond for the faithful discharge of his duty, in the fum of twenty thousand dollars, to the fatisfaction of the Secretary of the Treasury and Comptroller 176 Letters of the foregoing officers are free from poftage 53.
