it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye Called; because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sin. should live unto righteousness by whose stripes ye were healed For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the shepherd and bishop of your souls

The Gospel St. John x 11.
ESUS said, I am the good shepherd:

the sheep But he that is an hireling,
and no th shepherd, whose own the
sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and
leaveth the sheep, and fleeth; and the
wolf catcheth them. and scattereth the
sheep The hireling fleeth because he is
an hireling, and careth not for the sheep
I am the good shepherd, and know my
sheep, and am known of mine As the
Father knoweth me, even so know I the
Father and I lay down my life for the
sheep And other sheep I have, which
are not of this fold: them also I must
bring, and they shall hear my voice and
there shall be une fold and one shepherd.

EARLY beloved. I beseech you, as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that whereas they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold. glorify God in the day of visitation. Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake; whether it be to the king, as supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him, for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well For so is the will of God, that with well-doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men ase. and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness; but as the servants of

God. Honour all men: Love the bro therhood: Fear God: Honour the king.

The Gospel. St. John xvi. 16. JESUS said to his disciples, A little

while, and ye shall not see me and again, a little while, and ye shall see me; because I go to the Father Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us. A little while, and ye shall not see me again, a little while, and ye shall see me ; and. Because I go to the Father? They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves of that I said. A little while, and ye shall not see me and again, a little while, and ye shall see me? Verily, verily, I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy A woman when she is in trava I hath sorrow, because her hour is come but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish. for joy that a man is born into the world And ye now therefore have sorrow but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

The Epistle St. James 1. 17.

EVERY good gift, and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights. with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let ev ery man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and su perfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not ome unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me : Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more: Of judgment. because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak and he will show you things to come He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you All things that the Father hath. are mine; therefore said 1, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.

E ye doers of the word, and not

selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natura! face in a glass For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein; he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiv eth his own heart, this man's religion is vain Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father, is this. To visit the fatherless and widows in their affiction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace In the world ye shall have tri bulation but be of good cheer: I have overcome the world."

The Ascension-Day

The Collect

GRANT, we beseech thee, Almighty

God, that like as we do believe thy only begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ to have ascended into the heavens so we may also in heart and mind thither ascend, and with him continually dwell, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end Amen.

For the Epistle. Acts 11 THE former treatise have I made, O of Jesus began

both to do and teach, until the day in which he was taken up, after that he, through the Holy Ghost, had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen To whom also he showed himself alive after his passion, by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days. and speaking of the things pertain ing to the kingdom of God: and being assembled together with them, com manded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost, not many days hence. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you and ye shall be witnesses unto me toth in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Sa maria. and unto the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out

of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven, as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel: which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go

into heaven.

The Gospel St. Mark xvi 14. ESUS appeared unto the eleven, as them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them. Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature He that believeth, and is

baptized, shall be saved; but he that be

lieveth not, shall be damned And these
signs shall follow them that believe In
my name shail they cast out devils;
they shall speak with new tongues; they
shall take up serpents; and if they drink
any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;
they shall lay hands on the sick, and
they shall recover So then, after the
Lord had spoken unto them, he was re-
ceived up into heaven, and sat on the
right hand of God. And they went forth,
and preached every where, the Lord
working with them, and confirming the
word with signs following.

The Collect.

Use hospitality one to another without grudging As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God: If any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ

They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh. that whosoever killeth you, will think that he doeth God service And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me but these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them.

And there appeared unto them cloven tongues, like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them: And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost; and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language And they were all amazed, and marvelled, saying one to another. Behold, are not all these which Galileaus,

At that day ye shall know that I an in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me; and he that loveth me, shall be loved of my Father; and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Judas saith unto him, (not Iscariot) Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words; and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not, keepeth not my sayings and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatso ever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I And now I have told you before it come to pass, that when it is come to pass, ye might believe. throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached: How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost, and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him And we are witnesses of all things which he did, both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew, and hanged on a tree. Him God raised up the third day, and showed him openly; not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God; even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the judge of quick and dead. To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name, whosoever believeth in him, shall receive remission of sins. While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them who heard the word. And they of the circumcision who believed, were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, who have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

The Gospel. St. John tii. 16.

OD so loved the world, that he gave

his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

The Gospel. St. John x. 1. VER TERILY, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheep-fold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door, is the shepherd of the sheep To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice; and he calleth his own sheep by name. and leadeth them out And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him; for they know his voice and a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him; for they know not the voice of strangers. This parable spake Jesus unto them; but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them. Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily. I say unto you I am the door of the sheep: All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door by me if any Iman enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. And round about the throne were four and twenty seats; and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold and out of the throne proceeded lightnings, and thunderings, and voices. And there were seven lamps of fire burn. ing before the throne, which are the seven spirits of God. And before the throne, there was a sea of glass, like unto crys tal. And in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind: And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within and they rest not day and night, saying. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Al mighty, who was, and is, and is to come And when those beasts give glory, and honour, and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, the four and twenty elders fall down be fore him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne. saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory, and honour, and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are, and were created
