THE AUTHOR, having had during the summer a longcontinued attack of gout, which for a time disabled his right hand, has been compelled to adopt a conciseness of expression for which he ought perhaps to apologise. He hopes, however, that conciseness may not be found necessarily to involve obscurity. In any case, as the 'Charge' herein examined was the first attempt, known to him, on the part of an Anglican Bishop openly to teach the peculiar principles of the Faith and Worship of the Church of Rome, it became his duty to give to it immediately the best answer in his power.
