Ix bringing before the public some account of the life and religious exercises of Job Otis, as written by himself, it is earnestly to be desired, that whatever feelings of prejudice against him, may have found place in the minds of any into whose hands this may come, they may be willing to endeavor so far to lay them aside, as to read the following pages with serious and careful attention, for though his views, feelings and incentives to action may have been misconstrued and misunderstood by some, who with himself preferred Zion's prosperity to their chief est joy; yet it will be seen by accounts herewith presented, that few in the present time in our Society, have been more deeply concerned for its prosperity. And preservation on the only sum foundation.
