Where the limit of a Parliamentary City or Borough differs from that of the Municipal, the population of the latter has been preferred, in order to approximate as near as possible to the Town population. The population of both Parliamentary and Municipal limits is given, where the population of the former differed considerably from that of the latter, as in the case of some of the principal Cities and Boroughs. NOTE. In some few cases the population is not inserted after the name of the place, as it was not distinguished at the Census of 1851; but the name and population of the Parish, &c., in which it is situated, is inserted in brackets, except in a few instances where it could not be ascertained.
