APPLIANCES.

HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN, having specially honoured Mr. HEATHER BIGG, of 29, LEICESTER-SQUARE (Author of "Artificial Limbs, their Construction and Application;""Deformities, and the Appliances necessary for their Treatment;" "Localized Movements, or Muscular Exercises applied to the Treatment of Spinal Curvature"), with a command to construct Mechanical Appliances for those wounded Soldiers particularly recommended to her gracious consideration, has led him to bestow considerable attention upon the scientific arrangement of such appliances; he therefore begs to invite Officers and others who are labouring under loss of limb, &c., to examine the Artificial Legs, Artificial Arms and Hands, Spinal Apparatus, &., he possesses.

Mr. HEATHER BIGG, being conscious that the invention, construction, and application of mechanism for the treatment of deformities are frequently found to be unaccompanied by that enlarged scientific experience which such a subject requires, has recently visited the various Orthop ædic Establishments of Paris, Vienna, Munich, Stuttgard, Berliu, Dresden, Caunstadt, Frankfort, &c., for the purpose of personally ascertaining what forms of apparatus were especially adopted, and thus enabling him to place at the disposal of the Medical Profession the resulting advantages.

Mr. HEATHER BIGG, having been for several years Anatomical, Surgical, and Orthopaedic Mechanist to the Royal Hospitals of Chelsea and Greenwich, the Admiralty, the Hon. Board of Ordnance, the Hon. East India Company, St. George's, Middlesex, University College, King's College, Royal Free, Guy's, and St. Thomas's Hospitals, has devoted considerable time and experience to the invention, construction, and adaptation of every variety of Anatomical Appliance, and takes this opportunity of inviting the attention of the Medical Profession to the New and valuable Inventions he possesses for affording mechanical aid in cases of Talipes Varus, Valgus, Equinus, and Calcaneus; Lateral, Posterior, Rotative, and Anterior Curvature of the Spine; Inguinal, Femoral, Umbilical, and Ventral Hernia; Prolapsus Uteri and Ani; as well as every variety of Anatomical Deformity.

Mr. HEATHER BIGG also begs to invite attention to a Gymnasium which he has had constructed at 29, Leicester-square, in order that the Members of the Profession might be enabled to test for themselves the benefit resulting from a combination of mechanical appliances with calisthenics, where the condition of deformity requires such an arrangement, or the exercise of simple

muscular power when merely a threatened departure from
