81. Jesus reproveth his kinsmen: goeth up from
Galilee to the feast of tabernacles: teacheth
in the temple. The Pharisees chide with
Nicodemus.

a Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at J. 7. 2
hand. His brethren therefore said unto him, 3
Depart hence, and go into Judæa, that thy dis-
ciples also may see the works that thou doest.
For there is no man that doeth any thing in 4
secret, and he himself seeketh to be known
openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself
to the world. For neither did his brethren 5
believe in him. Then Jesus said unto them, 6
My time is not yet come: but your time is

alway ready. The world cannot hate you; but 7
"me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the
"works thereof are evil. Go ye up unto this 8
"feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for
"my time is not yet full come." When he had 9
said these words unto them, he abode still in
Galilee.

But when his brethren were gone up, then 10
went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but
as it were in secret. Then the Jews sought him 11
at the feast, and said, Where is he? And there 12
was much murmuring among the people con-
cerning him for some said, He is a good man :
others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear 13
of the Jews.

Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went 14
Acts 2.7. up into the temple, and taught. And the Jews 15

If any man will do his "will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether "it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18" He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory but he that seeketh his glory that sent "him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness 19" is in him. Did not Moses give you the law, Ex. 24.3. "and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why 20" go ye about to kill me?" The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about 21 to kill thee? Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very 27 Christ? howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth 28 whence he is. 10. Deut.

AND early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto 3 him; and he sat down, and taught them. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had 4 set her in the midst, they say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very 5 act. a Now Moses in the law commanded us, a Lev. 20. that such should be stoned: but what sayest 22 22 6 thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, 7 as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them," He that is without sin among Deu.17.7. 8" you, let him first cast a stone at her." And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9 And they which heard it, being convicted by Rom. 2. their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing 10 in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, "Woman, where are those thine accusers? 11 hath no man condemned thee?" She said, No
