him by certain,' which said, Thy moth'er and thy breth'ren stand without', desiring to see thee. 21 And he an'swered and said unto them, My moth'er and my breth'ren are these which he'ar the word of Go'd, and do it.

22 Now it came to pass' on a certain day, that he went in'to a ship with his disci'ples: and he said unto them, Let us go o'ver un'to the oth'er side of the la'ke. And they launched fo'rth. 23 But as they sailed he fell asleep and there came down a sto'rm of wind on the la'ke; and they were filled with wa'ter,' and were in jeopardy. 24 And they came to him, and awo'ke him, sa'ying, Mas'ter, Mas'ter, we per'ish! Then he aro'se, and rebu'ked the wind and the ra'ging of the wa'ter; and they ce'ased, and there was a calm. 25 And he said un'to them, Where is your faith? And they, being afra'id, won'dered, sa'ying one to anoth'er, What man'ner of man is this! for he comman'deth e'ven the winds and wa'ter, and they obey him.

26 And they arrived at the coun'try of the Gadare'nes, which is over against Galileo. 27 And when he went fo'rth to land, there met him out of the cit'y a certain man, which had dev'ils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abo'de in 'an'y' house, but in the to'mbs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down befo're him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, 'thou' Son of Go'd most high? I beseech thee, torment' me not. (For he had comman'ded the uncle'an spirit to come out of the man. For of'tentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with cha'ins, and in fet'ters; and he brake the bands, and was driv'en of the dev'il in'to the wil'derness.) 30 And Je'sus ask'ed him, sa'ying, What is thy na'me? And he said, Le'gion: beca'use man'y dev'ils were en'tered in'to him. 31 And they besought him that he would not command' them to go out into the de'ep. 32 And there was there an herd of man'y swi'ne feeding on the mountain and they besought him that he would suf'fer them to en'ter in'to them. And he suffered them. 33 Then went the dev'ils out of the man, and en'tered in'to the swi'ne and the herd ran vi'olently down a ste'ẹp place in'to the lake, and were cho'ked. 3 When they that fed 'them' saw what was done, they fled, and went and to'ld 'it' in the city, and in the coun'try. 35 Then they went out to see what was done; and ca'me to Je'sus, and found the mạn, out of whom the dev'ils were depa'rted, sitting at the feet of

36

Je'sus, clothed, and in his right mi'nd: and they were afraid. They also which saw 'it' to'ld them by what means he that was possess'ed of the dev'ils was he'aled. 37 Then the whole multitude of the coun'try of the Gadare'nes round about' beso'ught him to depa'rt from them for they were taken with grea't fear. And he went up in'to the ship, and return'ed back again'. 38 Now the man out of whom the dev'ils were depa'rted, besought him that he might be with him: but Je'sus sent him away, sa'ying, 39 Return' to thine o'wn house, and shew how grea't things Go'd hath done un'to thee. And he went his way, and published throughout' the whole cit'y how grea't things Je'sus had done un'to him. 40 And it came to pass', that, when Je'sus was return'ed, the pe'ople 'gladly' received him for they were a'll waiting for him.

41 And, behold, there came a man, na'med Ja'irus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue; and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and beso'ught him that he would come in'to his house 42 For he had one o'nly daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. (But as he went the people thronged him.

:

43 And a woman, having an iss'ue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon' physic'ians, neither could be he'aled of an'y, 44 Came behind him,' and touched the bo'rder of his garment and imme'diately her issue of blood stanched. 45 And Je'sus said, Who touched me? When a'll deni'ed, Pe'ter, and they that were with him, said, Mas'ter, the multitude throng thee, and press thee,' and sa'yest thou, Who touched me? 46 And Je'sus said, Som'ebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. 47 And when the wom'an saw that she was not hid, she came trem'bling, and, falling down befo're him, she decla'red un'to him befo're all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was he'aled immediately. 48 And he said un'to her, Da'ughter, be of good' com'fort: thy faith hath made thee who'le; go in peace.)

49 While he yet spake, there com'eth one from the ruler of the synagogue's house,' sa'ying to him, Thy da'ughter is dead; trouble not the Mas'ter. 50 But when Jesus heard "it,' he answered him, sa'ying, Fe'ar not: belje've o'nly, and she shall be made whole. 51 And when he came in'to the house, he suf'fered no man to go in, save Pe'ter, and Ja'męs, and John, and the father and the mother of the

ma'iden. And all wept, and bewa'iled her: but he said, We'ep not; she is not dead, but sle'epeth. 53 And they laughed him to sco'rn, kno'wing that she was dead. 54 And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, sa'ying, Ma'id, ari'se. 55 And her spir'it ca'me again', and she aro'se straightway: and he comman'ded to give her meat. 56 And her parents were aston'ished: but he cha'rged them that they should tell no man what was done.

CHAP. IX. Then he called his twelve disci'ples together, and ga've them pow'er and authority o'ver a'll dev'ils, and to cu're diseases. 2 And he sent them to pre'ach the kingdom of Go'd, and to heal the sick. 3 And he said un'to them, Take noth'ing for your' jour'ney, neither sta'vęs, nor scrip, ne'ither bread, ne'ither money; neither have two coats apie'ce. And whatsoev'er house ye en'ter in'to, there abi'de, and thence depa'rt. 5 And whosoev'er will not receive you, when ye go out of that cit'y, sha'ke off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against' them. And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gos'pel, and he'aling ev'ery where.

7 Now Herod the te'trarch heard of a'll that was done by him and he was perplex'ed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead; 8 And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of oth'ers, that one of the o'ld prophets was ris'en again'. 9 And Her'od said, John have I behead'ed: but who is this of whom I hear such things? And he desired to sc'e him.

10 And the apostles, when they were retur'ned, to'ld him a'll that they had done. And he took' them, and went asi'de privately in'to a des'ert place belonging to the city, call'ed Bethsa'ida. 11 And the pe'ople, when they knew 'it,' followed him and he received them, and spakę un'to them of the kingdom of Go'd, and he'aled them that had ne'ed of healing.

12 And when the day began' to wea'r awa'y, then came the twelve, and said un'to him, Send the multitude awa'y, that they may go into the towns and coun'try round about', and lo'dge, and get victuals: for we are he're in a des'ert place. 13 But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fish'es; except we should go and buy me'at for all this • pe'ople. 14 (For they were about five thou'sand men.) And he said to his disci'ples, Make them sit down by fif'tics

in a com'pany. 15 And they did so, and made them all sit down. 16 Then he took' the five loaves and the two fish'es, and, look'ing up to heaven, he blessed them, and bra'ke, and gave to the disci'ples to set befo're the multitude. 17 And they did e'at, and were a'll filled; and there was ta'ken up of fragments that remained to them twelve bas'kets.

18 And it came to pass', as he was alo'ne pra'ying, his disci'ples were with him: and he asked them, sa'ying, Whom say the people that I am? 19 They an'swering, said, John the Bap'tist; but some 'say,' Eli'as; and oth'ers 'say,' that one of the old proph'ets is ris'en again'. 20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Pe'ter an'swering, said, The Chri'st of Go'd. 21 And he straitly cha'rged them, and comman'ded 'them' to tell no man that thing; 22 Sa'ying, The Son of man must suf'fer mạn'y things, and be rejec'ted of the el'ders, and chie'f prje'sts, and scri'bes, and be sla'in, and be ra'ised the third day.

23 And he said to them' a'll, If an'y 'man' will come af'ter me, let him deny' himself', and take up his cross da'ily, and follow me. 24 For whosoev'er will sa've his life shall lo'se it but whosoev'er will lo'se his life for my sa'ke, the same shall sa've it. 25 For what is a man advan'taged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself', or be cast' awa'y? 26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me, and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his o'wn glo'ry, and in his' Father's, and of the holy a'ngels. 27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some stan'ding he're which shall not taste of death till they see the kin'gdom of Go'd.

28 And it came to pass', about' an eight days after these sa'yings, he took' Pe'ter, and John, and Ja'mes, and went up in to a moun'tain to pra'y. 29 And, as he prayed, the fash'ion of his coun'tenance was altered, and his ra'iment 'was' white 'and' glis'tering. 30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Mo'ses and Eli'as; 31 Who appeared in glo'ry, and spake of his dece'ase, which he should accomplish at Jeru'salem. 32 But Pe'ter and they that were with him were heav'y with sle'ep: and when they were awa'ke, they saw his glo'ry, and the two men that stood' with him. 33 And it came to pass', as they departed from him, Pe'ter said un'to Je'sus, Mas'ter, it is good' for us to be he're: and let us make three tab'ernacles; que for thee, and one for Mo'ses, and one for Elias: not

kno'wing what he said. 34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud and overshad'owed them and they feared as they entered in'to the cloud. 35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, sa'ying, This is my beloved Son; he'ar him. 36 And when the voice was past', Je'sus was found alo'ne. And they kept 'it' clo'se, and to'ld no man in those days an'y of those things which they had seen.

37 And it came to pass', that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much pe'ople met him. 38 And, behold, a man of the com'pany cri'ed out, sa'ying, Mas'ter, I beseech thee, look' upon' my son; for he is mine o'nly child 39 And, lo, a spir'it ta'keth him, and he suddenly cri'eth out; and it tea'reth him that he fo'ameth again', and, bru'ising him, ha'rdly depa'rteth from him. 40 And I besought thy disci'ples to cast' him out; and they could' not. 41 And Je'sus an'swering said, O fa'ithless and pervers'e genera'tion, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hith'er. 42 And as he was yet a com'ing, the dev'il threw him down, and ta're him.' And Je'sus rebu'ked the uncle'an spir'it, and he'aled the child, and delivered him again' to his father.

43 And they were a'll amazed at the might'y pow'er of Go'd. But, while they won'dered every one at a'll things which Jesus did, he said un'to his disci'ples, 44 Let these sa'yings sink down in'to your ears: for the Son of man shall be deliv'ered in'to the hands of men. 45 But they understood not this sa'ying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask' him of that sa'ying.

46 Then there aro'se a re'asoning among them, which of them should be grea'test. 47 And Je'sus, perceiving the thought of their hea'rt, took' a child, and set him by him, 48 And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this chi'ld in my na'me, rece'iveth me; and whosoever shall receive me, rece'iveth him that sent me: for he that is least amon'g you all, the sa'me shall be grea't.

49 And John an'swered and said, Mas'ter, we saw one cast'ing out dev'ils in thy na'me; and we forbade him, because he followeth not with us. 50 And Je'sus said un'to him, Forbid' him' not: for he that is not against' us is for us.

51 And it came to pass', when the time was come that he should be recc'ived up, he sted'fastly set his face to go to
