THE

REGULATIONS

HE Astor Building, 40 Lafayette Place, and the Lenox Building, Fifth Avenue and 70th Street, are open daily, excepting on Sundays, Independence Day, Christmas, and New Year, from 9 A. M. until 6 P. M.

The Reading rooms and the Exhibition rooms are free to all persons; but children under the age of fifteen years must be accompanied by an adult.

In the Reading room of each Library Building certain shelves are set apart for books of reference, which readers are allowed to take down and examine at their pleasure. For all other books an application must be made by filling out and signing one of the blanks provided for the purpose.

During the month of June, there were received at the Library by purchase 1,408 volumes and 4,993 pamphlets, and by gift 1,686 volumes and 4,872 pamphlets.

There were catalogued 5,371 books and 3, 108 pamphlets, for which purpose 20,875 cards and 2,447 slips for the printer were written.

The following table shows the number of readers, and the number of volumes consulted, in both the Astor and Lenox Branches of the Library, during the month:

Among the important gifts of the month were-7 volumes and 9 pamphlets from Mr. S. P. Avery; 20 volumes and 9 pamphlets from the Argentine Republic; 9 volumes and 37 pamphlets from the Academy of Science, Agriculture, Arts and Letters, of Aix; 5 volumes and I pamphlet from the British Museum; 41 volumes and 154 pamphlets from the Boston Medical Library; 4 volumes from the Bench of Lincoln's Inn; 25 volumes and 30 pamphlets from Dr. S. A. Binion; 36 volumes and 206 pamphlets from the French Consul General at New York; 261 pamphlets from Paul L. Ford; 1 volume from Edwin Freshfield; 55 volumes from the Librarian of the Grecian Chamber of Deputies; 1 volume from Baron GentileCusa of Catania; 48 volumes from the Japanese Government; 52 volumes from City of Milan; 3 volumes from R. L. Murray; 4 volumes from the Netherlands Minister of Finance; 45 volumes from Thomas Windsor; 179 volumes, 465 pamphlets and 3 maps from Mrs. E. N. Vanderpoel; 61 volumes from the City of Vienna, and 17 volumes from Venezuela.
