RESOLUTION instructing the Secretary of State to prepare a Legislative Manual.

Resolved, That the secretary of state be instructed to prepare, for the use of the general assembly, a legisla tive manual, containing the rules and orders of the general assembly, and such other matter as he may deem expedient, and that he cause five hundred copies thereof to be printed. Also one hundred and fifty copies in pocket size, containing the roll of members, the committees, and the rules and orders of the two houses, with such other matter as he may see fit.

Resolved, That two hundred copies of the report of the inspectors of the state prison, in addition to those required for the schedules, be printed for the use of the prison authorities.

RESOLUTION Continuing the Joint Special Committee No. 6. on repairs of the State House in Providence, with authority to render the same secure.

Resolved, That the joint special committee appointed at the January session, 1877, on repairs to the state house in Providence, be continued, and they are hereby instructed to make such repairs on the same, without unnecessary delay, as shall render the third floor secure, at an expense not exceeding seven hundred and fifty dollars; and the state auditor is hereby directed to draw his orders on the general treasurer for such portion thereof as may be required, upon the receipt by him of properly authenticated vouchers.

RESOLUTION appointing a Joint Special Committee to select a suitable location for the State Industrial School.

Resolved, That Messrs. Augustus O. Bourn, of Bristol, and Dexter Clark, of Cumberland, on the part of the senate, and Messrs. Allen Greene, of Providence, Samuel P. Colt, of Bristol, and Alvord O. Miles, of East Providence, on the part of the house of representatives, be a joint special committee to select a suitable loca tion for the State Industrial School, and to make report of their doings to the January session of the legislature.

RESOLUTION making an appropriation for the purchase of the Providence High School Building, and to put the same in proper condition for the uses and purposes of the State Normal School.

Resolved, That the sum of forty thousand dollars be and the same is hereby appropriated for the purchase of the Providence High School building and grounds, and to put said High School building in proper condi tion for the uses and purposes of the state normal school; and the state auditor is hereby authorized to draw his orders for such portions thereof as may be required from time to time upon the receipt by him of vouchers properly authenticated by the chairman of the joint special committee appointed at the January session, A. D. 1875, to purchase and put in proper condition the Providence High School building and estate for the uses and purposes of the state normal school.

RESOLUTION to authorize the Board of State Charities and Corrections to exchange land of the State Farm for adjacent land.

Resolved, That the board of state charities and corrections are hereby authorized to exchange land of the

state farm, adjacent to, or near the land of Samuel Burlingame, for land of said Burlingame, for the purpose of providing a better entrance to the grounds of the new state prison, and a more advantageous distribution of the sewage therefrom; and that the general treasurer is hereby authorized to make and execute a deed of such land as the board of state charities and corrections may have agreed to exchange.

RESOLUTION for the repair of the road leading to the No. 10. State Farm and making an appropriation therefor.

Resolved, That the board of state charities and corrections be and they are hereby authorized and directed to repair and improve the road leading to the state farm from the line of the city of Providence, using the labor of the inmates of said institution as far as practicable therefor, and the gravel in front of the new state prison for the purpose of filling up such portions of said road as may require it, and the sum of two thousand dollars is hereby appropriated for such purpose; and the state auditor is hereby authorized to draw his orders upon the general treasurer for such portions of said sum as may be required from time to time, upon the receipt by him of properly authenti

cated vouchers.

RESOLUTIONS of invitation to the President of the No. 11. United States, and his Cabinet, to visit this State.

Whereas, the comrades of the Grand Army of the Republic, the Society of the Army of the Potomac, the Society of the Ninth Army Corps, and several other army societies will hold a grand re-union in the city of Providence, the last week of the present month of June, and

Whereas, this occasion will call together a large number of distinguished soldiers and citizens from all parts of the country; representative men of the union. army in the late war of the rebellion; it is therefore

Resolved, (the honorable senate concurring herein) that his excellency the governor, in behalf of the people of the state of Rhode Island, be and he is hereby requested to extend an invitation to the president of the United States and the members of, his cabinet, to visit this state on the 26th, 27th and 28th days of June instant, to participate in the festivities of the occasion. Resolved, That Messrs. Amos Sherman, of Woonsocket, Nathan F. Dixon, of Westerly, Henry J. Spooner, of Providence, Henry H. Fay, of Newport, and Alvord O. Miles, of East Providence, of the house of representatives, and Messrs. Pardon E. Tillinghast, of Pawtucket, Elisha Dyer, Jr., of North Kingstown, and Henry A. Thomas, of East Greenwich, of the senate, be and they are hereby appointed a joint select committee to receive the president of the United States, and the members of his cabinet, in a manner appropriate to the character of the distinguished guests, and the dignity of the state of Rhode Island.

Resolved, That the state auditor be and he is hereby directed to draw his orders on the general treasurer for such sum or sums as may be necessary to carry out the purposes of the above resolutions, upon the requisitions of the governor, to be paid out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.

RESOLUTIONS providing for proceedings upon the completion of the Providence County Court House.

Resolved, That upon the completion of the Providence county court house, the commissioners for building the same be and they hereby are directed to deliver the care and custody of said court house to the sheriff of Providence county, and said commissioners are hereby authorized to provide for such dedicatory exercises in connection therewith as they may deem proper, provided, that the expense of the same shall not exceed the sum of three hundred and fifty dollars, and the state auditor is hereby directed to draw his order upon the general treasurer, in favor of said commissioners, for such sum not exceeding said amount of

three hundred and fifty dollars, as said commissioners may require for that purpose.

Resolved, That the librarian of the law library, and the clerks of the supreme court and court of common pleas for the county of Providence, be and they hereby are directed, upon the completion of said court house, to remove to the rooms respectively provided for them therein, all books and papers and such furniture as may be required, belonging to their respective offices.

RESOLUTION for the recovery of certain money from the No. 13. towns of Johnston and North Providence, for board of prisoners.

Resolved, That the attorney general is hereby directed to take such legal steps as he may deem necessary to recover from the town of Johnston, the sum of seventy-nine dollars and nineteen cents, and from the town of North Providence, the sum of twenty-six dollars and forty-seven cents, due from said towns to the state, for board of persons confined in the years 1875 and 1876, in the Providence county jail, by order of the authorities of said towns.

RESOLUTION to inquire into the accounts of the Clerk No. 14. of the Justice Court in Providence.

Resolved, That Messrs. Charles E. Carpenter, of Providence, Henry Whitman, of Cranston, and William G. Roelker, of Warwick, of the house of representatives, and Messrs. Christopher R. Greene, of Warwick, and Pardon E. Tillinghast, of Pawtucket, of the senate, be and they are hereby appointed a committee with authority to sit in vacation, to inquire into the accounts of the clerk of the justice court, of the city of Providence, and to report the condition of the said accounts and the manner of their being kept, and whether there is any money in the hands of the said clerk, which belongs to the state, or to said city of Providence and if any, what amount; with power to
