PUBLIC LAWS SHALL BE CONSTRUED TO REPEAL ANY PART OF CHAPTER 482 OF THE PUBLIC LAWS. It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows : SECTION 1. Nothing in chapter 533 of the Public Laws shall be construed to repeal chapter 482 of the Public Laws, or any part thereof. SEC. 2. This act shall take effect from and after its passage. Passed June 1. 1877. Trustees of Providence reform school may permit CHAPTER 642. AN ACT IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 241 OF THE GENERAL OF PROVIDENCE." It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows : SECTION 1. Section 4 of said chapter is hereby amended by inserting between the words "remand inmates to live them" and "as is," in the seventh line thereof, the following words: " or permit them to live at home or elsewhere during the pleasure of said trustees, subject to their control and authority." at home, etc. SEC. 2. Section 9 of said chapter is hereby amended by adding thereto the following words: "or until he shall be permitted to live at home or elsewhere, subject, however, while so at home or elsewhere, to the control and authority of said trustees, and liable to be returned to said school at any time during his term of sentence at their pleasure." SEC. 3. This act shall take effect from and after its passage, and all acts and parts of acts inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed. CHAPTER 643. AN ACT IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 899 OF THE PUBLIC LAWS It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: SECTION 1. Section 7 of chapter 899 is hereby amended, so that the annual town meeting for the purpose of ordering a town tax, school and highway taxes, and for transacting such other business as шuay legally come before such meeting, shall be held on the second Monday in June, or at such other time as such town shall prescribe by vote at a previous meeting called for that purpose. SEC. 2. This act shall take effect from and after the passage thereof. CHAPTER 644. AN ACT TO PREVENT THE DUMPING OF MUD AND OTHER MATE- Passed June 1, RIALS INTO A PORTION OF NARRAGANSETT BAY. Penalty for fraudulently CHAPTER 645. AN ACT IN ADDITION TO CHAPTER 230 OF THE GENERAL STAT- It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: SECTION 1. Any person who shall enter a hotel, eating-house, restaurant or victualing house, and havetc., partaken at ing ordered and partaken of food or other refreshment evading pay ment for food, hotels, etc. therein, shall fraudulently evade or attempt to evade payment therefor, shall be fined not exceeding twenty dollars, or be imprisoned not exceeding thirty days. SEC. 2. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed. Passed June 1, 1877. Tramps to be sentenced to hard labor on public highways, etc. CHAPTER 646. AN ACT FOR THE PUNISHMENT OF TRAMPS. It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: SECTION 1. Every able-bodied man who shall go from house to house, or from place to place, begging, or who shall otherwise seek the means of subsistence by begging, shall be deemed to be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, before any justice court, shall be sentenced by such court to hard labor upon the public highways, or other public work of the town in which he shall have been convicted, for a term not exceeding ten days; such labor to be per formed by such offender in the custody and under the direction of any surveyor of highways, or officer discharging the duty of surveyor of highways, or such other public officer or contractor as may have charge of any public work for such town. Able-bodied persons applying to overseers of the poor for relief, may be work; provided with SEC. 2. Every able-bodied person who shall apply to any overseer of the poor of any town for relief or support, may, by such overseer of the poor, be provided with work upon the highways or upon some other public work of the town where such application shall be made, and put such applicant at work for a term not exceeding ten days, under the direction of the surveyor of highways, or the officer discharging the duty of such surveyor, or such overseer of the poor may put such applicant to work upon some other public work of such town under the direction of the officer or contractor having control of the same, for a term not exceeding ten days; and such applicant, and any person convicted under the preceding section of this act, shall be supported and relieved by such overseer of the poor while such person is employed and faithfully labors upon such highway or public work, or is in the execution of a sentence imposed under the preceding section hereof; and if any person neglects or refuses Penalty for reto perform the work assigned him under the provisions of this section of this act, he shall be deemed to have committed the misdemeanor described in the first section of this act, and may be convicted and sentenced for such offence as is in the said preceding section provided.
