Morning and Evening Prayers.

The service may begin with a Lesson from Holy Scripture or with the proper Sentence for the Day. The use of the Psalter is optional. If omitted, the Lesson or the Sentence for the Day may be used instead: but the Gloria Patri should always be said whether the Psalter is used or not.

Morning Prayer.

All standing up, the Reader shall say:

V. In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

R. Amen.

V. I laid me down and slept, and rose up again; for the Lord sustained

me.

R. Thanks be to Thee, O Lord.

V. Praise ye the Lord.

R. The Lord's Name be praised.

Here may be used the Psalm for the Day [vid. pages 19-34], concluding with

The Gloria Patri.

GLORY be to the Father, and to the

Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Then shall be said

I

The Apostles' Creed.

BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell, The third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy Catholic Church; The Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body; And the Life everlasting. Amen.

And after that, these Prayers following, all devoutly kneeling: the Reader first pronouncing,

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And with thy spirit.

Let us pray.

V. O Lord, show Thy mercy upon us; R. And grant us Thy salvation.

V. O God, make clean our hearts within

us;

R. And take not Thy Holy Spirit from

us.

V. O God, make speed to save us.
R. O Lord, make haste to help us.
The Lord's Prayer.

OUR Father, who art in heaven, Hal

lowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Then shall be said the Collect for the Day, and afterward these prayers, with any special prayers appropriate to the occasion.
