According to Mendelsfohn. Those who are bent upon giving to this word the signification of a lily, will have some difficulty in accounting for the figures in the Song of Solomon ii. 2, and v. 13. as we should then have, in the one instance, lilies placed among thorns; and in the other, lips like lilies praised as a beauty.

*Orbare to deprive or bereave (one of any thing), as Buxtorf translates it, and not exclusively of one's children as Gesenius will have it. We meet with several instances in the Scriptures where this root must needs be taken in a more comprehensive sense than that which Gesenius ascribes to it. Comp. Lam. i. 20. Ps. xxxv. 12. Mal. iii. 11.
