NEARNESS OF GOD IN PARTICULAR TO HIS OWN WORSHIPPING AND BELIEVING PEOPLE.

And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not. And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.--Genesis xxviii. 16, 17.

And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.-Exodus xxxiii. 14, 15.

The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.—Psalm xxxiv. 17, 18.

Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me. Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.-Psalm xxxviii. 21, 22.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.— Psalm xlvi. 1, 7.

But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.—Psalm lxxiii. 28.

Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.— Isaiah lv. 6, 7.

For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.-Isaiah lvii. 15.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret : and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.Matthew vi. 6.

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.-Matthew xviii. 20.

That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: but now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.-Ephesians ii. 12, 13.

NEIGHBOURS WITH NEIGHBOURS-MUTUAL DUTIES AND MUTUAL BENEFITS TO BE CONSIDERED.

Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.-Proverbs iii. 29.

Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.-Proverbs xxvii. 10.

These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates: and let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath : for all these are things that I hate, saith the Lord.-Zechariah viii. 16, 17.

Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.— Matthew v. 43, 44.

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.— Matthew vii. 12.

Now Elizabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son. And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.-Luke i. 57, 58.

Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.— Luke x. 36, 37.

Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off; and many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.-John xi. 18, 19.

Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.-Romans xii. 9, 10.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Philippians iv. 8, 9.

"Now," AN IMPORTANT WORD-RELATIVE TO TIME OR SOME EVENT OF INTEREST. MANY LESSONS.

And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.-Genesis iii. 22, 23.

And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the Lord which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee: I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.—Genesis xxxii. 9, 10.

Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.-Ecclesiastes xii. 1.

Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word for mine eyes have seen thy salvation.-Luke ii. 29, 30.

But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.—Luke xvi. 25.

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, Í have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.-John xii. 27, 28.

What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.—Romans vi. 21, 22.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.— Romans viii. I.

And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.— Romans xiii. II.

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.—1 John iii. 2.

PARENTS; THEIR LOVE AND DUTY TO THEIR CHILDREN.-MANY LESSONS SUGGESTED.

And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee !-Genesis xvii. 18.

And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.-Exodus ii. 1, 2.

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.-Deuteronomy vi. 6, 7.

For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him therefore also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord. And he worshipped the Lord there.-1 Samuel i. 27, 28.

He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.—Proverbs xiii. 24.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.- Proverbs xxii. 6.

Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.—Isaiah xlix. 15.

And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.—Luke xviii. 15, 16. The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.John iv. 49.

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.-Eph. vi. 4.

But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.— I Timothy v. 8.

When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.—2 Timothy i. 5.

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.-2 Timothy iii. 15.

PARENTS TO BE LOVED, OBEYED, PLEASED, AND HONOURED BY THEIR CHILDREN.

And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padan-aram.-Genesis xxviii. 7.

Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not.-Genesis xlv. 9.

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.-Exodus xx. 12.

Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.-Leviticus xix. 3.

Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token: and that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.—Joshua ii. 12, 13.

Bath-sheba therefore went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a seat to be set for the king's mother; and she sat on his right hand..—1 Kings ii. 19.

That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace.-Psalm cxliv. 12.

A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.-Proverbs x. I.

And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.-Luke ii. 51.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise. Ephesians vi. I, 2.

But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.—1 Timothy v. 4.

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy.— 2 Timothy iii. 1, 2.
