COMING, SECOND, OF JESUS CHRIST PROMISED-IS SURE TO BE FULFILLED AT THE APPOINTED TIME.

I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.—Daniel vii. 9, 10.

When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory and before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on his left.-Matthew xxv. 31-33.

And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go up into heaven.—Acts i. 9-11.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.— I Thessalonians iv. 16, 17.

And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire, taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.—2 Thessalonians i. 7-9.

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.-Hebrews ix. 27, 28.

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him : and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. -Revelation i. 7.

COMMANDMENTS, THE TEN. THE MORAL LAW, WRITTEN BY GOD ON TWO TABLES OF STONE.

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.-Exodus xx. 3.

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.-Exodus xx. 4-6.

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.— Exodus xx. 7.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.--Exodus xx. 8-11.

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.-Exod. xx. 12. Thou shalt not kill.-Exodus xx. 13.

Thou shalt not commit adultery.—Exodus xx. 14.

Thou shalt not steal. -Exodus xx. 15.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.-Exodus xx. 16.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.- Exodus XX. 17.

And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.-Deut. iv. 13.

And the Lord delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the Lord spake with you in the mount, out of the midst of the fire, in the day of the assembly.-Deut. ix. 10.

COMMANDMENTS-THE MORAL LAW IS COMPREHENSIVE, PERFECT, UNCHANGEABLE, AND BINDING UPON ALL.

Ye shall observe to do therefore as the Lord your God hath commanded you ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. -Deut. v. 32.

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.-Psalm xix. 7, 8.

I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy commandment is exceeding broad.-Psalm cxix. 96.

He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person. The thought of foolishness is sin and the scorner is an abomination to men.-Proverbs xxiv. 8, 9.

:

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets : I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. But let your communication be. Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. Matthew v. 17, 18, 37.

Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.-Matthew xxii. 36-40.

Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.-Romans iii. 19.

Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.-Romans vii. 12.

For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse : for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.-Gal. iii. 10.

If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: but if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.-James ii. 8-10.

COMMUNION OF SAINTS WITH GOD-A PRECIOUS BENEFIT. ILLUSTRATIONS.

And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.-Genesis v. 24.

And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel : for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. Genesis xxxii. 24-28.

Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.-Psalm lxxiii. 25, 26.

As the apple-tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. He brought me to the banqueting-house, and his banner over me was love. Stay me with flagons, comfort me with apples: for I am sick of love.-Song of Solomon ii. 3-5.

I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honey-comb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, Ó beloved.—Song of Solomon v. 1.

And as they did eat, Jesus took bread and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat this is my body. And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.-Mark xiv. 22, 23.

The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?-1 Corinthians x. 16.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.-2 Cor.

xiii. 14.

That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.-1 John i. 3.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.-Revelation iii. 20.

And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart.-Acts ii. 42, 46.

Speaking to yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.-Ephesians v. 19, 20.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.-Colossians iii. 16.

If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin-1 John i. 6, 7.
