3 By knowledge supreme,
By wisdom divine,
With gracious design:
His providence reigns,
Whose love still sustains.
With reason endu'd,
By grace is renew'd;
Let man ever raise
The chorus of praise.
P.M.-General Praise. 1 LET us, with a joyful mind,
Praise the Lord, for he is kind;
Ever faithful, ever sure.
For of gods he is the God,
The heavens high, and all their state; 3 Did the solid earth ordain
How to rise above the main;
Fill’d the new-made world with light; 4 Caus'd the golden-tressed sun
All the day his course to run;
5 All his creatures God does feed,
His full hand supplies their need;
His high majesty and worth.
Above the reach of mortal eye;
P.M.-Glory to God in the highest. 1 SONGS of praise the angels sang,
Heaven with hallelujahs rang,
When He spake, and it was done. 2 Songs of praise awoke the morn,
When the Prince of Peace was born;
Captive led captivity.
Songs of praise shall crown that day:
Songs of praise shall hail their birth. 4 And shall man alone be dumb,
Till that glorious kingdom come?
Psalms and hymns, and songs of praise. 5 Saints below, with heart and voice,
Still in songs of praise rejoice;
Songs of praise to sing above. 6 Borne upon the latest breath,
Songs of praise shall conquer death;
416. P.M.-Praise to the God of Abraham. 1 THE God of Abraham praise,
Who reigns enthron'd above;
And God of love;
By earth and heaven confest;
For ever blest.
At whose supreme command
At his right hand:
Its wisdom, fame, and power,
My shield and tower.
Whose all-sufficient grace
In all his ways:
Through Jesus' blood. 4 He by Himself hath sworn,
I on his oath depend,
To heaven ascend:
I shall his power adore,
417. C.M.-Praise for Divine Goodness. Ps. Ixvi. 8. cxiii. 1. 1 LIFT up to God the voice of praise,
Whose breath our souls inspir’d; Loud and more loud the anthem raise,
With grateful ardour fir'd!
Whose tender care sustains
With death's unnumber'd pains. 3 Lift up to God the voice of praise,
Whose goodness, passing thought! Loads every minute, as it flies,
With benefits unsought!
From whom salvation flows,
From everlasting woes!
For hope's transporting ray,
To realms of endless day!
Stupendous are thy ways;
And all recount thy praise.
With all the stars of light;
The silver moon by night.
That shine from pole to pole, In silent harmony unite,
To praise thee as they roll;
4 O shall not we, of human race,
The glorious concert join!
Attempt the theme divine!
Can shew forth God's high praise: Nor all the noblest strains sublime
That earth or heaven can raise. 6 Yet this shall be our blest employ
Through life's uncertain days:
Eternal be thy praise.
419. C.M.-Praise for Creation and Providence. 1 I SING the almighty power of God
That made the mountains rise,
And built the lofty skies.
The sun to rule the day;
And all the stars obey.
That fill'd the earth with food;
And then pronounc'd them good. 4 Lord! how thy wonders are display'd
Where'er I turn mine eye,
Or gaze upon the sky!
But makes thy glories known,
By order from thy throne.
