AND your hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

2 Wherein t in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince v of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children w of disobedience :

3 Among whom also we x all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the 3 desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by naturez the children of wrath, even as others.

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

5 Even a when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace b ye are saved ;)

made us sit together in heavenly places 6 And bath raised c us up together, and

in Christ Jesus;

7That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace, in his kindness e toward us through Christ Jesus.

8 For by grace fare ye saved through faith;g and that not h of yourselves; it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, whichn God hath before 7 ordained that we should walk in them.

11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

13 But now, in Christ Jesus, ye who sometimes were far off, are made nigh by the blood u of Christ.

FOR this cause I Paul, the prisoner of t Is.28.16. 5 Which in other ages was not d made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto the holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

18 May be able to comprehend with all saints, what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness k of God.

20 Now munto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus, throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

CHAP. IV.
THEREFORE, the prisoner 2 of the

of the vocation wherewith ye are called. 2 With all lowliness u and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one an other in love;

3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4 There is one body and oneSpirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure z of the gift of Christ.

8 Wherefore he saith, b When he as cended up on high, he led 4 captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might 5 fill all things.)

11 And e he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers:

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edify. ing of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come 6 in the unity g of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect i man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried m about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning crafti ness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But, 8 speaking the truth o in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, p even Christ:

16 From whom r the whole body filly joined together, and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

18Having the understanding v darkenea, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, be cause of the blindness of their heart,

The Believer's newness of Life.

19 Who being past feeling, have a given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But ye have not so learned Christ; 21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

22 That ye put d off, concerning the former conversation, the old f man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed h in the spirit of your mind;

17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what g the will of the Lord is.

18 And be not drunk i with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

19 Speaking to yourselves in 1 psalms and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing m and making melody in your n heart to the Lord;

20 Giving thanks q always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

22 Wives, u submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the Saviour of the body.

24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing a of water by the word:

27 That he might present c it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, d or wrinkle, or any such thing but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies; he that loveth his wite loveth himself.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it; even as the Lord the church:

30 For we are members h of his body. of his flesh, and of his bones.

31 For k this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two m shall be one flesh.

32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

33 Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular, so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

CHAP. VI.

CHILDREN, 9 obey your parents ia the Lord: for this is right.

2 Honour thy father and mother (which is the first commandment with promise,)

3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

4 And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

5 Servants, y be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ.

6 Not with eye-service, as men-pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
