A Prayer for Courage.

LORD, Who hast called us to endure hardness as good soldiers of JESUS CHRIST, grant me courage in my Christian course. Help me not to yield to the fear of man which bringeth a snare, but to stand against the sinful customs of the world, and the allurements of those who know Thee not. Give me grace to speak the truth boldly, to reprove evil, and to confess CHRIST before men. Enable me to uphold Purity, Truth, and Justice against the world, the flesh, and the devil; and, having Thee always before my eyes, to persevere even unto the end; for the sake and in the strength of JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

A Prayer for the Love of our Neighbour.

LORD GOD, the Fountain of Love, always full, and always overflowing, grant me, from that Fountain, such love of my fellow-men that I may truly sorrow in their sorrows; rejoice in their joys; bear their burdens; help them in their work; share their anxieties; and give them counsel in their difficulties. Help me not to be discouraged by ingratitude, nor thrown back by coldness, but, doing all, not for the sake of return, but for the love of Thee, and of those whom Thou hast loved with an everlasting love, I may be enabled to persevere in my work and labour of love even unto the end; for the sake of

our loving LORD and SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST. Amen.

A Prayer for Spiritual Light.

THOU that art the Light Eternal and the Sun of Righteousness, evermore arising and never going down, giving life, and food, and gladness unto all things; mercifully vouchsafe to shine upon me, and cast Thy blessed beams upon the darkness of my understanding, and the black mists of my sins and errors; for Thy only merits, Who art alone our SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

LORD, Who hast bound us together in one Body, even Thy Holy Catholic Church, let me not rest content with loving and serving Thee myself, but fill me with an earnest desire to draw others to love and serve Thee also; help me, through my earnest labours, my fervent prayers, and my affectionate love, to bring souls to Thee, so that, being filled with Thy SPIRIT, they may join in the work of Thy Kingdom, and the furtherance of Thy glory; for His sake, Who loved us and gave Himself for us. Amen.

A Prayer for Deliverance from the Remembrance of Evil.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, Who didst come into the world to deliver us from the

dominion of evil, preserve me from the recollection of evil things. Grant that what I have heard from the wicked in this world I may not remember, nor ever tell to others; that I may never listen to the like again, and that I may hate every evil way; for Thine own sake, Who, for us, wast born of a pure Virgin. Amen.

A Prayer for the Gift of Sympathy with Others. LORD, Who knowest the selfishness of our hearts, give me grace to overcome it; help me not to be so overwhelmed with the cares and trials of a working life as to neglect such ministry for others as Thou givest me. Enable me to learn from my own sorrows sympathy with those in distress; inspire me with the desire and the power to comfort them in their troubles. Help me not, through negligence, to lose any opportunity of doing them service; and draw us all one to another by the cords of love, so that, bearing one another's burdens, we may fulfil the law of CHRIST, Who gave Himself freely for us all. Amen.

A Prayer for Faith.

LORD GOD Almighty, Who hast told us in Thy Word, that he that cometh to GOD must believe that He is, and that He is a Re

warder of those that diligently seek Him, grant me such a true and entire faith in Thee, that I may not be a forgetful hearer but a doer of Thy works, and may shew forth my faith by my life; for the sake of JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen

A Prayer for the Pure Love of GOD.

LORD GOD, the Source of all goodness,

let me know my SAVIOUR's love, let me feel His Presence, yet let me hold His Glory still more dear. Let me seek, not my own, but the things that are JESUS CHRIST'S. Let me love Thee, not for the sake of winning Heaven, nor of escaping Hell; not for the sake of gaining anything from Thee, but because Thou art GOD, the Source and Fountain of all goodness, because Thou hast freely given Thy SON to live a life of suffering and die a death of shame for the love of me and of all mankind. LORD, by Thy great love, so draw us to Thee, that we, loving Thee above all things, may live to Thy glory and die in Thy Name; for the sake of Him Who died and rose again for us. Amen.

A Prayer for Submission to the Will of GOD.

MOST loving FATHER, grant me entire

ways to desire and will that which is right in Thy sight. Let Thy Will be mine, and let my

will ever follow Thine and agree perfectly with it. Thou knowest what is best for me; let my wishes be fulfilled or not fulfilled as Thou pleasest. Give what Thou wilt, and how much Thou wilt, and when Thou wilt. Deal with me as Thou thinkest good, and as best pleaseth Thee and is most for Thy honour. Grant to me, above all things, to rest in Thee, and in Thee to have my heart at peace, for Thou art the true peace of the heart, Thou its only rest; out of Thee all things are hard and restless. In this peace, O LORD, let me rest for ever; for Thy loving Name's sake. Amen.

A Prayer for Truth.

LORD GOD of Truth, grant that the Spirit of truth may rule in my heart and in my life. Help me to speak the exact truth at all times; to be true in deed as well as in word; enable me to be specially careful in speaking of those whom I dislike, or from whom I differ in religious opinions, that I do not slander them or set other people against them, but shew all fairness towards them; for His sake Who is the Truth, JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.
