A Prayer before a Journey.

THOU Who didst guide the Israelites by an angel, the wise men by a star, Who didst preserve Peter in the waves, and Paul in shipwreck, be present with me in the changes and chances of my journey, go with me, and lead me out, and lead me back, for Thy Blessed Name's sake. Amen.

I

A Prayer on a Birthday.

RENDER to Thee humble and hearty thanks, O Heavenly FATHER, for having preserved me in health and strength to this day. May it please Thee to continue to me the gifts with which Thou hast favoured me, and to give me a thankful heart for Thy manifold and great mercies. All my resolutions made this day do Thou enable me, through Thy strength, to keep, and more, far more, than I can either ask or think, do Thou for me, through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

For a Blessing on a Friendship.

LORD JESUS CHRIST

John,

love for the blessed Apostle John, hast consecrated the ties of friendship, grant Thy blessing on my friendship with ; direct and guide our intercourse, help us to lift each other

up, to strengthen each other in all good ways, and to draw each other nearer Thee, for Thine own Name's sake. Amen.

A Prayer for Health of Body.

GOD, the FATHER of Lights, from Whom

FATHERry good and perfect

gift, grant us health of body as well as of mind; help me to try to keep my own health, and to promote health in my home, to prevent, as far as lies in my power, the overcrowding which is such an evil amongst us; never through carelessness, idleness, or selfishness, to be the means of spreading infection, and to use all possible methods to stop it. Grant to us the means of cleanliness, and the conditions of health, and awaken all of us to a sense of the sacredness of the bodies which Thou hast made with such wonderful care and given into our charge, and assist us to make them, as well as our souls, a fitting temple for Thy HOLY GHOST. Through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

For Hatred of Evil.

LORD, give me true hatred of Evil; let me

hate sin as Thou hatest it, and never by word, look, or action shew toleration of it; let me never call deadly sin by soft names, or make excuses for it, but, as Thou hast put all women

in trust of Purity, give me the power to fulfil the trust. Let me never, through fear of man, or for the sake of worldly interests, make light of sin, but grant me such perfect purity that, even where I am not able to reprove it, I may, by look and manner, shew such loathing of it that all may shrink from the mention of it in my presence. Through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

For the right Use of Womanly Influence.

HE

ELP me, O LORD, to use my influence as a woman for the purposes for which Thou hast given it me, to lift up and purify men, not to make them minister to my vanity and folly. Help me always, under all circumstances, to act in a womanly manner, so that they may be able always to respect me, and that I may be able to assist, not hinder, them in the battle of life. Preserve me from encouraging them to do unfair things that they may make more money to minister to my pleasure, but rather to strengthen them, by my influence, to be upright, even if it is to their worldly disadvantage, and to be merciful if they are tempted to harshness. Assist me, by my gentleness and courtesy, to make life smoother and pleasanter to them, and grant that women may help men, and men may help women, to raise the home life, to encourage Purity and Temperance, and to uphold each other

in all honest and good living; so, that working together to carry out GOD'S purpose in the world, and both filling their right places in it, they may aid in changing the kingdoms of the world into the Kingdom of our LORD and of His CHRIST. Amen.

Hymn.

The Right must Win.

IT is hard

To rise and take His part
Upon this battle-field of earth,
And not sometimes lose heart!

He hides Himself so wondrously,
As though there were no GOD;
He is least seen when all the powers
Of ill are most abroad.

Or He deserts us at the hour
The fight is all but lost;

And seems to leave us to ourselves
Just when we need Him most.

It is not so, but so it looks;
And we lose courage then;

And doubts will come if GOD hath kept
His promises to men.

Ah! GOD is other than we think;
His ways are far above,

Far beyond reason's heights, and reached
Only by childlike love.

Workman of GOD! oh, lose not heart,
But learn what GOD is like;
And in the darkest battle-field
Thou shalt know where to strike.

For blest is he who can divine
Where real right doth lie,

And dares to take the side that seems
Wrong to man's blindfold eye.

O learn to scorn the praise of men!
O learn to lose with GOD!

For JESUS won the world through shame,
And beckons thee His road.

GOD'S glory is a wondrous thing,
Most strange in all its ways,

And, of all things on earth, least like
What men agree to praise.

GOD's justice is a bed where we
Our anxious hearts may lay,

And, weary with ourselves, may sleep
Our discontent away.

For Right is Right, since GOD is GOD;
And Right the day must win:

To doubt would be disloyalty,
To falter would be sin!
