17. Proviso as to Paper used for Bills of Exchange.

18. Engraving on a Plate, &c. any Bank Note, &c. or having such Plate, &c., or having or uttering Paper upon which a blank Bank Note, &c., shall be printed.

19. Engraving on Plate, &c. any Word, &c. resembling any Part of a Bank Note, &c., or using or having such Plate, &c., or uttering or having Paper on which any such Word &c. is impressed.

As to forging Bankers' Notes:

20. Making or having Mould for making Paper with the Name of any Bankers; making or having such Paper.

21. Engraving on Plate, &c. any Bill of Exchange or Promissory Note of any Bankers, or using such Plate, or uttering or having any Paper upon which Part of such Bill or Note is printed.

As to forging Court Rolls:

22. Forging Court Rolls or Copy of Court Rolls.

As to falsely acknowledging Recognizances, &c.:

23. Acknowledging Recognizance, Bail, Cognovit, &c. in the Name of another.

As to forging Registers of Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials:

24. Forging and making false Entries in Registers of Marriage and Copies of such Registers.

25. Rector not liable to any Penalty for correcting accidental Mistakes.

As to forging Foreign Instruments:

27. Engraving Plates, &c. for Foreign Bills, or Notes; using or having such Plates; or uttering Paper on which any Part of such Bill or Note is printed.

As to other Matters:

28. Forging, &c. in England Documents purporting to be made or actually made out of England; forging, &c. in England Bills of Exchange, &c. purporting to be payable out of England.

HEREAS it is expedient to consolidate the Statute Law Preamble.
of England relating to indictable Offences by Forgery:
Be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty,

by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and 5 Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, as follows:

As to forging Her Majesty's Seals:

I. Whosoever shall forge or counterfeit, or shall utter, knowing the same to be forged or counterfeited, the Great Seal of the United &c. 10 Kingdom, Her Majesty's Privy Seal, any Privy Signet of Her Majesty, s.2. Her Majesty's Royal Sign Manual, any of Her Majesty's Seals 2 & 3 W. 4. appointed by the Twenty-fourth Article of the Union to be kept, 1 Vict. c.81. used, and continued in Scotland, the Great Seal of Ireland, or the ss. 2, 3. 9 & 10 Vict. A 4 [Bill 153.] c. 24. s. 1.

Privy Seal of Ireland, shall be guilty of Felony, and, being convicted thereof, shall be liable, at the Discretion of the Court, to be kept in Penal Servitude for Life, or for any Term not less than Three Years, or to be imprisoned for any Term not exceeding Four Years, with or without Hard Labour, and with or without Solitary Con- 5 finement.

As to forging private Securities :

II. Whosoever shall forge or alter, or shall offer, utter, dispose of, or Testamen- or put off, knowing the same to be forged or altered, any Will, tary Paper; Testament, Codicil, or Testamentary Writing, or any Deed, Bond, or 10 or a Deed, Writing obligatory;-or any Bill of Exchange, or any Promissory Note for the Payment of Money, or any Indorsement on or Assignment of ment of any Bill of Exchange or Promissory Note for the Payment of Money, or any Acceptance of any Bill of Exchange, or any Undertaking, Warrant, or Order for the Payment of Money;—or any 15 Acquittance or Receipt either for Money or Goods, or any accountor Order for able Receipt either for Money or Goods, or for any Note, Bill, or Payment of Money; or a other Security for Payment of Money, or any Warrant, Order, or Receipt for Request for the Delivery or Transfer of Goods, or for the Delivery Goods, or an of any Note, Bill, or other Security for Payment of Money, with 20 Intent, in any of the Cases aforesaid, to defraud;-shall be guilty of Felony, and being convicted thereof shall be liable, at the Discretion of the Court, to be kept in Penal Servitude for Life, or for any Term not less than Three Years,-or to be imprisoned for any Term not exceeding Four Years, with or without Hard Labour, and with or 25 without Solitary Confinement.

Forging any III. Where by this or by any other Act any Person is made liable to Instrument, Punishment for forging or altering, or for offering, uttering, disposing signated, of, or putting off, knowing the same to be forged or altered, any Instrument or Writing designated in such Act by any special Name or 30 Description, and such Instrument or Writing, however designated, is in Law a Will, Testament, Codicil, or Testamentary Writing, or a Bill of Exchange or a Promissory Note for the Payment of Money, or an Indorsement on or Assignment of a Bill of Exchange, or Promissory Note for the Payment of Money, or an Acceptance of a 35 Bill of Exchange, or an Undertaking, Warrant, or Order for the Payment of Money, within the true Intent and Meaning of this Act, in every such Case the Person forging or altering such Instrument or Writing, or offering, uttering, disposing of, or putting off such Instrument or Writing, knowing the same to be forged or altered, 40 may be indicted as an Offender against this Act, and punished accordingly.
