The object of the publication will be to preserve in a permanent form all manuscript papers of an historical character, and to encourage a taste for the study of local history. It will aim to present the phases of social life within the original township of Dedham since its settlement, and the relation of the town to the history of the times. For a long time the need of such a work has been felt, and it is now confidently hoped that this purpose may be successfully carried out.
