NOTE. THE ten essays which comprise this volume were written quite independently; with the exception of the first two, they have no literary or logical connexion. The topics and style of treatment are varied, but the attitude of mind and temper adopted throughout by the writers will be found to differ very little. They represent the method of dealing with religious questions characteristic of modern Unitarians. All the essays have been issued separately in the UNITARIAN PENNY LIBRARY, and they are now published in the hope that some people will wish to possess them in this more permanent form.
