8. THE INNOCENTS' DAY.

O ALMIGHTY GOD, Who out of the mouths of babes and sucklings hast ordained strength, and madest infants to glorify Thee by their deaths; mortify and kill all vices in us, and so strengthen us by Thy grace, that by the innocency of our lives, and constancy of our faith even unto death, we may glorify Thy holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. 10. CIRCUMCISION OF CHRIST.

ALMIGHTY GOD, Who madest Thy blessed Son to be circumcised, and obedient to the law for man; Grant us the true Circumcision of the Spirit; that, our hearts, and all our members, being mortified from all worldly and carnal lusts, we may in all things obey Thy blessed will; through the same Thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Quest. What was the seal of God's covenant with Abraham?

Ans. Circumcision.

Quest. Did "the blessed Son" of God take this covenant upon Him?

Ans. Yes; for He was "made of a woman, made under the law." Gal. iv. 4.

Quest. For whose sakes was He thus "obedient to the law for man?"

Ans. For our sakes, who should be made heirs of the promise given unto Abraham. Gal. iii. 29.

Quest. What is "the true Circumcision of the Spirit?" Ans. "Not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience towards God." 1 Peter ii. 21.

Quest. For what purpose do we pray "that our hearts and all our members may be mortified from all worldly and carnal lusts ?"

Ans. "That we may in all things obey God's blessed will."

Ans. Covetousness and ambition.

Ans. St. Paul says, "this is the will of God, even your sanctification." 1 Thess. iv. 3.

Quest. What does Christ's "obedience to the law for men" teach us?

Ans. That the seals of the covenant must by no means be neglected.
