The preceding table shows that of 7,118 employees for whom information was secured, 57.5 per cent are foreign-born, 27.7 per cent are native-born of foreign father, 14.4 per cent are native whites born of native father, and 0.3 per cent are native negroes born of native father. Of the employees who are native whites born of native father and those who are native-born of foreign father, information was secured from a larger percentage of females than of males. The foreign-born employees show a considerably higher percentage of males than of females, while information was secured from no female negroes. Of the employees who are native-born of foreign father, those whose fathers were born in Germany show 12.9 per cent and those whose fathers were born in Ireland show 9.5 per cent, while no employees whose fathers were born in other specified countries show over 2 per cent of the total number for whom information was secured. In this group, it will be noted, in most instances information was secured from a larger proportion of female employees than of male employees. Of the foreign-born employees, the Germans show 20.8 per cent and the Lithuanians, Irish, Magyars, and Poles 5 per cent or over, while none of the other foreign-born races show over 3 per cent of the total number of employees for whom information was secured. In this group in every instance information was secured from a higher percentage of the male than of the female employees. SEWING MACHINES-MIDDLE WEST. The following table shows the number and percentage of male employees of each race for whom information was secured engaged in sewing-machine manufacturing in Indiana. Of 1,908 male employees shown in the above table, 49.9 per cent are of foreign birth, 27.4 per cent are native-born of foreign father, 21.8 per cent are native whites born of native father, and 1 per cent are native negroes born of native father. Of the employees who are native-born of foreign father, those whose fathers were born in Germany show 18.4 per cent, those whose fathers were born in Russia 4.5 per cent, while no employees whose fathers were born in other specified countries show over 1.2 per cent of the total number of employees for whom information was secured. Of the foreign-born employees, the Magyars show 18.1 per cent, the Poles 15.3 per cent, and the Germans 8.1 per cent, while none of the other specified races show over 2.5 per cent of the total number of employees for whom information was secured. SEWING MACHINES-TOTAL. The next table submitted shows, by sex, the total number and percentage of employees of each race for whom information was secured employed in sewing-machine manufacturing establishments. Of 9,026 employees shown in the preceding table, 55.9 per cent are of foreign birth, 27.7 per cent are native-born of foreign father, 16 per cent are native whites born of native father, and 0.5 per cent are native negroes born of native father. Of the employees who are nativeborn of foreign father, those whose fathers were born in Germany show 14.1 per cent, those whose fathers were born in Ireland 7.7 per cent, while no employees whose fathers were born in other specified countries show over 2 per cent of the total number for whom information was secured. It will be noted in this group that information was secured in most instances from a higher percentage of females than of males. Of the employees who are nativeborn of foreign father, those whose fathers were born in Ireland show 10.1 per cent, those whose fathers were born in Germany show 7 per cent, while no employees whose fathers were born in other specified countries show over 3 per cent of the total number for whom information was secured. Of the foreign-born employees, the South Italians show 10.1 per cent, the Germans show 4.6 per cent, the North Italians 4.5 per cent, while no employees who are of other specified races show over 4 per cent of the total number for whom information was secured. TYPEWRITERS. The table next presented shows, by sex, the number and per cent of employees of each race, for whom information was secured, employed in typewriter-manufacturing establishments.
