approaching Centennial Anniversary of that ancient and honored institution. Born and cradled in the forming period of our state and nation, this seat of learning has, in all its history, exerted a grand and effective influence in molding aright the character of our people, in establishing and maintaining the beneficent civil and religious institutions which are the glory of the nation and the age. We gratefully renew the expression of our admiration and affection, and do pledge ourselves to do what in us lies, to add to the materials for enlarged usefulness, which the later years are giving so generously to this beloved College.

Resolved, That we urgently recommend to the ministers and members of our churches, that they complete, in their several County Conferences, the Scholarships proposed for the College, and that they signalize the Centennial Year by the contribution of $50,000 more.

Proceeded to the discussion of the following question: How shall the New-Hampshire Sabbath School Union be made a means of actual benefit and of needed progress in the cause of Sabbath School instruction.

The discussion was opened by Rev. R. M. Sargent, of Farmington, followed by Rev. Dr. Day, of Hollis, Rev. George Darling, of Hudson, Ohio, Rev. Asa Bullard, and Rev. Dr. Bouton. Opened by Edward A. Aiken, M. D., of Amherst, followed by Rev. Dr. Wallace, and Rev. Lewis Grout.

Voted, That the third question be taken up in the prayer meeting to-morrow morning.

NARRATIVE OF THE STATE OF RELIGION.

You wish for no preface to the narrative we have to give; you wait for the facts we have gathered from the reports which have come to us from the Conferences represented in this body-facts which we have arranged as well as time and circumstances would permit, and now lay before you, to a great extent in the language of the reports in which they have come to us, following the order of the narrative of the last year. We go up on the western side of the State, come down upon the eastern side, and end with the Conference "which lies in the heart of the Commonwealth."

Cheshire Conference. Of the twenty-six churches composing this Conference, eight have pastors; and twelve or thirteen stated supplies. October 15th, the Second Church in Keene was organized with one hundred and twenty-one members, who had been dismissed from the First Church. Rev. Mr. Leach, having ceased to be associate pastor of the First Church, became acting pastor of the new church.

On the 9th of July, Rev. Z. S. Barstow, D. D., was dismissed from the pastorate of the First Church in Keene, an office which he had held with great honor and usefulness for fifty years, and Rev. W. L. Karr was installed in his place.

Rev. Mr. Hasmore has been installed as pastor of the church in Winchester.

About a year ago the house of worship in New Alstead was re-dedicated, and Rev. S. H. Amsden installed as pastor of the church.

Rev. Mr. Gaylord has been called from the pastorate of the church in Fitzwilliam to that of Pearl St. Church in Nashua. The pastor of the church in Marlborough, in consequence of enfeebled health, will discontinue his labors as soon as the church secures a man to take his place.

No extensive work of grace has blessed, during the past year, any church belonging to this Conference. The dew, if not the rain, of the Spirit, has, however, fallen upon some places. Two churches report, each nine hopeful conversions; another church reports six conversions; the report from another is that "several have experienced hope and united with the church;" another reports the establishment of "a young people's inquiry meeting, which promises good;" a number report congregations and Sabbath schools as having
