church, been supplied by a Baptist preacher; and to one, aid has been refused. Six churches, not aided the previous year, have received assistance during the past year, and two additional missionary fields have been occupied.

From the Statistical Table which follows, it will be seen that in thirty congregations reported, the average attendance on public worship, each, was 74, and that the average number in the Sabbath School was, also, 74; that the whole number of conversions reported was 42; the number added to these churches, by profession, 38; by letter, 27; the number removed, by death, dismission and exclusion, 30; making the net gain 35; and that the benevolent contributions amounted, in the aggregate, to $707.11.

The report of the Treasurer shows that there have been received into the treasury during the year $13,382.04. Of this amount, $3,111.40 have by direction of the donors been paid to the American Home Missionary Society, leaving $10,270.64 in the treasury of this Society. Of this amount, $9,011.74 was received from donations, of which $2,713.22 was from the Female Cent Institution, and $1,134.13 from legacies. There appear, also, to have been sent directly from the State to the American Home Missionary Society $3,944.66-$861.33 in donations and $3,082.83 in legacies. This will make the whole amount raised for home missionary purposes in the State, during the year, $17,326.70. The amount of disbursements in the State, during the year, was $7,433.02 Of the balance in the treasury, the Trustees have voted to send $1,000.00 immediately to the Society at New York. Considerably more will probably soon be sent, but the Trustees have deemed it expedient to retain, for the present, a considerable balance to provide for possible contingencies that may arise in carrying out the policy inaugurated by the resolutions of Oct. 24, 1873-a policy which has, unavoidably, been somewhat delayed, but which will be in full operation in the coming year.

The amount contributed by the aided churches directly to the support of the missionaries laboring among them, has considerably exceeded the amount contributed in the previous year, or, probably, in any past year. The exact amount has not been

ascertained, but it is safe to say that the advance has been fully ten per cent. It is hoped that the coming year will witness a still larger advance in this direction.

The receipts of the Female Cent Institution, $2,713.22, are believed to be larger than in any previous year. This is especially gratifying, since it was apprehended by many that the springing up of so many societies auxiliary to the Woman's Board, together with the retirement of Mrs. Stone, who has so long been its faithful and efficient Treasurer, might occasion a falling off in its receipts. The result proves what has often been observed before, that benevolent giving in one direction, only serves to quicken the sensibilities, and enlarge the heart for a generous response in another direction. What is wanted is to get the heart open, and the more varied and moving the appeals, the more hope there is that each will be promptly met. The more one's Christian sympathies are stirred by the cry of the perishing in Japan, the more likely he will be to hear the appeal of the destitute in New-Hampshire.

It will be seen that the amount received into our treasury from legacies is less than usual. There are, however, donations from two sources; one of $2,000.00 for our Society, and one of $2,500.00 intended for the American Home Missionary Society, from Moses P. Page, of Gilmanton Iron Works, and one of $400.00, from Ezra Alden, of Lebanon, since deceased, each regarded, by the donor, as in the nature of a legacy, but which they each resolved to make certain of going to the object intended, by paying it themselves, in their life-time. We commend this example to the attention of others who may have estates, some portion of which they design for charitable uses. By becoming their own executors, they will at least know what becomes of their money.

The following table will exhibit, as far as statistics can, the work done and the results accomplished in the year.

DETAILS AND RESULTS.

The specific notices which follow will give some of the more prominent facts in the condition and prospects of the aided churches.

Y. Alstead, Paper Mill Village.-Our missionary here preaches half the time, during the summer, at Langdon, and the church in Langdon unites very cordially in his support. Notwithstanding some "grave obstacles to the progress of the Gospel," he is laboring hopefully and successfully. Occasional conversions and a manifest growing interest in religious things cheer him on. The place is a growing one, and the field very important and promising.

2. Alstead, East.-After being destitute somewhat more than a year, this church, in April last, secured the services as pastor of one who received a very generous and hearty welcome, and who has entered upon his labors with good prospects of success. An arrangement has been happily made by which he is to preach one half of the time for the church at Alstead Centre, and also to exercise a pastoral care over it. We trust that both these fields, in other days so abundantly fruitful, are still to wave with rich harvests.

3. Andover, East. The pastor notes a marked advance in the spirit of benevolence, resulting, as it would seem, largely, from a series of expository sermons on the book of Acts, in which a leading aim was to show "that from the beginning the church of Christ has been a missionary church, that Christ designed that it should be so, and that any church that does not enter into the spirit of missions does not deserve to be called a church of Christ." It would be well if that series could be preached in a good many of our churches-missionary and others. He also notes an increasing ability to appreciate solid sermons, and dissatisfaction with any other, indicating that an educational process is going forward very commendable, and worthy of imitation.
