tion, by delegates to this body. If any Association fails to nominate, the committee on nominations shall do it.

3. Delegates to foreign bodies may exchange their pointments, when, by so doing, one or both will be enabled to fill the appointment personally. The same delegate may be appointed to more than one foreign body; and any regularly chosen delegate may represent us in any State west of New York, in the absence of the delegate appointed to that body.

4. The Secretary of the Association, on information that the delegate appointed will fail to represent us, may appoint any minister or layman, in our churches, to discharge this service.

5. The printed Minutes of the Association shall be sufficient testimonial of the appointment of delegates to corresponding bodies. In case any delegate is unable to attend, in person or by substitute, in accordance with the preceding rules, it shall be his duty to forward a written communication to the corresponding body to which he was appointed.

XI. EXPENSES. The cost of printing the Minutes, and other necessary expenses of this Association, shall be defrayed by assessments, apportioned among the several Con-* ferences uniting in this organization, according to the number and relative strength of the churches belonging to each; and the Treasurer of each Conference shall be responsible to the Treasurer of the General Association for the amount so assessed.

XII. AMENDMENTS. Any of the foregoing articles, except the fundamental rules, may be amended or annulled at a regular meeting of this body, in which two-thirds of the Associations and Conferences are represented, by a majority of the members voting.

MINUTES.

The General Association of New Hampshire held its Sixtieth Annual Meeting in the house of the First Church in Keene, commencing on Tuesday, August 24, 1869, and was opened with a sermon by Prof. Henry E. Parker, of Dartmouth College, from Heb. 13: 8.

After the sermon the preacher took the chair.

After singing, and prayer by Rev. H. McLeod, the Pastoral Letter was read by Rev. H. A. Hazen, followed by addresses from Rev. J. F. Norton, on earnest and consecrated labor, and Rev. Z. S. Barstow, especially in reference to Dartmouth College.

After singing, and prayer by Rev. J. W. Chickering, the Narrative of the State of Religion was read by Rev. E. G. Parsons of Derry, followed by remarks from Rev. George Dustan, Rev. R. M. Sargent of Princeton, Mass., Rev. B. Smith and Rev. William Clark.

.Rev. William H. Dean presented the salutations of the General Association of Connecticut; Rev. L. H. Cobb, of the General Convention of Vermont-to which the Moderator felicitously responded.

A letter was read from Rev. G. H. Atkinson, D. D., presenting the salutations of the General Association of Oregon. Rev. E. G. Parsons and Rev. George Dustan were appointed a Committee to prepare a report on ministers of this State deceased during the past year, to be presented in print. Voted to adjourn to 7 o'clock.

TUESDAY EVENING.

After introductory exercises by Rev. L. H. Cobb of Springfield, Vermont, a sermon was preached by Rev. C. Cushing of Boston, from Neh. 3: 28. Showing the duties of Congregationalists to their own churches and denominational institutions.

A prayer-meeting was held from eight until nine o'clock, conducted by Rev. A. Tobey of Durham.
