yond question that in many cases nothing is contributed for the spread of the gospel. The failure to give, in many feeble churches, illustrates, it is to be feared, the failure to make Christian effort in any direction. To the members of these feeble churches we say earnestly, and with remembrance of the difficulties under which they labor, Brethren and sisters, the principal thing, under God, which is needed, that your churches may become strong, is, that you all become personally active as disciples of Christ, in giving, in sustaining Sabbath schools, in seeking the conversion of men, in striving to have the Christian graces in exercise in your own hearts and lives. Do we not believe, and shall we not ask of God to increase our faith, that the gospel is, always and every where, the power of God unto salvation? And can we not so much more fully receive, and so much more faithfully use, that gospel, that the Lord will comfort all the waste places of our beloved Zion,—will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord? Statistical Secretary.
