Jesus, our Great High Priest,
Has full atonement made:
Ye weary spirits, rest!
Ye mournful souls, be glad!
of Jubilee is come;

The

year

Return, ye ransom'd sinners, home!

XXVI.

WELL. COLL.

BRETHREN! on earth is no repose
For him who would be conqueror;
Put on the armour fit for those
Who must against the deadliest foes
Maintain the front and weight of war!
Be strong in Jesus and His might,
That against Satan ye may stand!
Not against flesh and blood we fight,
But against fiends, the Powers of night,
And all the world's unholy band.
Be true! no clinging doubts betray

Your comfort, or your course arrest.
Be strong! for evil is the day.
Prepare your feet to brave your way,
And guard with righteousness your breast.
Believe in Christ! and your fierce foe
Shall see His blazing darts rebound.
Hope ye in Christ, as blow by blow
Falls on your head and bows you low,

And else would strike you to the ground! And wield ye well, with might and main,

The while, God's keen and piercing sword! In prayer and vigilance maintain

The struggle and your King shall reign,

Your crown be won, your prayer be heard.

BRIGHT was the guiding star, that led,
With mild benignant ray,
The Gentiles to the lowly shed
Where the Redeemer lay.

But, lo! a brighter, clearer light
Now points to His abode;

It shines, through sin and sorrow's night,
To guide us to our God.

O haste to follow where it leads,
The gracious call obey,

Be rugged wilds, or flowery meads,
The Christian's destined way!
O gladly tread the narrow path,
While light and grace are given!
Who meekly follow Christ on earth
Shall reign with Him in Heaven.

CHRIST is gone up with a joyful sound,
He is gone to His bright abode;

The armies of Heaven, they throng around,
To hail their ascended God.

He is gone to His glorious throne on high, And to claim the victor's crown;

And captive He leads captivity,

And the foes He has overthrown.

He is gone to pour, from the fount of love,
Rich gifts on a sinful race;

To prepare a home for His saints above,
And to shed the Spirit's grace.

C

O bless the Lord for such mercy shown,
O bless with our latest breath,
The mighty God, in whose hands alone
Are the issues of life and death!
Christ is gone up with a joyful sound,
He is gone to His bright abode;

[round, With the Seraphim pure, who His throne surO praise our ascended God!

XXIX.

COME, Holy Spirit! come!
Let Thy bright beams arise,
Dispel the darkness from our minds,
And open all our eyes!

Revive our drooping faith,

Our doubts and fears remove, And kindle in our breast the flame Of never-dying love!

"Tis Thine to cleanse the heart, To sanctify the soul,

To fresh life on every part,
pour
And new-create the whole.

SP. PSMS.

Dwell Thou within our hearts,
Our minds from bondage free!
Then shall we know, and praise, and love
The Father, Son, and Thee.

XXX.

COME, ye that love the Lord, And let your joys be known, Join in a song with sweet accord, And praise Him on His throne!

BASIN. COLL.

Let those refuse to sing
Who never knew our God;
But servants of the Heavenly King
Should speak their joys abroad.

Let thankful songs abound,
And every tear be dry;

We're marching through Immanuel's ground,
To fairer worlds on high.

XXXI.

WATTS.

COMFORT ye, people of the Lord! for He
Is gracious, good, and merciful, and kind:
He will not judge us by ourselves; for we
Are unforgiving, haughty, stern, and blind.
Not as man judgeth in his own hard heart
Will He, our Maker, judge our fallen race :
Comfort ye, whom the Lord hath set apart
For His own works, the children of His grace.
Learn from the Cross all that He will forgive,
His yoke is easy and His burden light;
Let us be turn'd from every sin, and live
Hopeful and glad, as in His constant sight.

XXXII.

CREATOR, Spirit! by whose aid

The world's foundations first were laid,

Come, visit every pious mind!

Come, pour thy blessing on mankind!

From sin and sorrow set us free,
And make us temples fit for Thee!
Plenteous of grace, descend from high,
Rich in thy sevenfold energy!

P. & H.

Our frailty help, our vice controul,
Submit the senses to the soul,
And, lest our feet should haply stray,
Protect and guide us in the way!
Immortal honour, endless fame,
Attend the Almighty Father's name;
He, who for man's redemption died,
The Saviour Son, be glorified;
And equal adoration be,
Eternal Comforter, to Thee.

ST. AMBROSE. DRYDEN. HEBER.

XXXIII.

CRUCIFY Him, the hope of faith,
The Christ, the Lord of life!
Alas that cry! that blind fierce wrath!
That hour of guilt and strife!
Crucify Him! your Lord, your King!
O! hush that terrible cry!

It is done, amid the scornful ring;
Lo, Jesus, bleed and die!

Art Thou then number'd with the dead?
Hung on the accursed tree?

Has then Thy gentle spirit fled?

We thought that thou wert He That should redeem all Israel,

And fill the Prophet's part:

Our tears must flow, our bosoms swell,
Pity the slow of heart!

XXXIV.

DAY by day our God imparts

Life to us, and thankful hearts;

Day by day to God we raise

Prayer, thanksgiving, hymns of praise.
