ADVERTISEMENT. As the use of so many Roman numericals in paging these volumes may appear singular to the reader, we beg leave to state that they were adopted in consequence of an alteration having taken place in the original plan of the work after some sheets had been printed. In the first instance it was only intended to print the Diary of the Siege of Orlbans, with Notes ; but owing to the bulk of original matter in the Editor's possession, it was afterwards determined to extend the publication to two volumes, which led to this mode of paging. The writer having for some years made the subject of Jeanne d'Arc his particular study, and the major part of the documents comprised in these pages having never before appeared in print, it is hoped that circumstance will compensate for the irregularity thus alluded to.
