FIRST SUNDAY IN ADVENT.

LMIGHTY GOD! O give us grace, we pray,
That works of darkness we may cast away;
On us the armour of thy light bestow,

In this our time of mortal life below;
When Christ thy Son, to us a Saviour dear,
In great humility did now appear;

That when, with glorious Majesty o'erspread,
He comes again to judge the quick and dead,
We, in the day, when this world's life is past,
To life immortal then may rise at last,

Through Him, who, with the Holy Ghost and thee,
Liveth and reigneth, God eternally.

MIGHTY GOD, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon he armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which thy Son Jesus Christ e to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his ous Majesty to judge both the quick and dead, we may rise to the life immortal, through who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, now, and ever. Amen.

SECOND SUNDAY IN ADVENT.

BLESSED LORD, who to be writ did'st cause
All holy Scriptures for our light and laws;

Grant that their precepts we, in such wise blest,
May read, mark, learn and inwardly digest;
That we, by patience and by comfort sure
Of thy blest word, may ever hold secure
The glorious hope of life eternal, given

Through Jesus Christ, our Saviour Lord in Heaven.

LESSED LORD, who has caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning; grant that nay in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience, comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace, and ever hold fast the blessed hope of lasting life, which thou hast given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

THIRD SUNDAY IN ADVENT.

;

LORD JESU CHRIST, who, thy way to make clear,
Didst thy messenger send at thy first coming here
Grant, Lord, that thy stewards and ministers may
So likewise prepare and make ready thy way,
By turning the froward from sin and distrust
To the light and the wisdom of those who are just;
That, at thy second coming to judge us, all we
May in thy sight a people acceptable be,
Who livest and reignest the universe o'er,
With Father and Spirit, one God evermore.

O LORD JESU CHRIST, who at thy first coming didst send thy messenger to prepare thy way before thee; grant that the ministers and stewards of thy mysteries may likewise so prepare and make ready thy way, by turning the hearts of the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, that at thy second coming to judge the world we may be found an acceptable people in thy sight, who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

R

FOURTH SUNDAY IN ADVENT.

AISE up thy power; be with us, Lord, we pray,
And with great might, come, succour us this day,

That whereas we, by grievous sin beset,

Running our race are hindered sore, and let ;
Thy mercy bountiful, and grace may speed

To help and save us in our hour of need,

Through Him thy Son, our blessed Lord in Heaven,
Who satisfaction for our sins hath given;

To whom, with Thee and Spirit we adore,

Be praise and glory, now and evermore.

O LORD, raise up (we pray thee) thy power, and come among us, and with great might succour us; that whereas, through our sins and wickedness, we are sore let and hindered in running the race that is set before us, thy bountiful grace and mercy may speedily help and deliver us; through the satisfaction of thy Son our Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be honour and glory, world without end. Amen.

A

CHRISTMAS DAY.

LMIGHTY GOD, who graciously hast given

Thy sole begotten Son to us from Heaven,

Upon Himself our nature to endure,

Born as at this time of a Virgin pure;
Grant that regenerate, thy children we,
Made thine by grace, renewed may daily be
By thy good Spirit, Holy Ghost adored;

Through Him the same, our Saviour Christ the Lord';

7

Who now and ever one, the same with thee,

Liveth and reigneth, God eternally.

ALMIGHTY GOD, who hast given us thy only begotten Son to take our nature upon Him, and s at this time to be born of a pure Virgin; grant that we being regenerate, and made thy hildren by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by thy Holy Spirit; through the same our Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the same Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

IN

ST. STEPHEN'S DAY.

N all our sufferings here on earth
Το prove thy truth and love,
Grant, Lord, that we may steadfastly
Look up to Heav'n above,

And view by faith the glory great
That yet revealed shall be ;
And with the Holy Spirit filled
May ever learn from thee;

As thy first martyr Stephen learned
Our foes to bless and love,
And for his murderers prayed to thee,
O Jesus blessed above,

Who, aiding all that suffer woe
On thy account, dost stand
Our advocate and only friend,
Pleading at God's right hand.

GRANT, O Lord, that in all our sufferings here upon earth for the testimony of thy truth, we may stedfastly look up to heaven, and by faith behold the glory that shall be revealed; and, being filled with the Holy Ghost, may learn to love and bless our persecutors by the example of thy first Martyr Saint Stephen, who prayed for his murderers to thee, O blessed Jesus, who standest at the right hand of God to succour all those that suffer for thee, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST'S DAY.

HY bright beams of light, O most merciful Lord,

Tmy Church, we beseech thee, cast on;

That, enlightened and led by the doctrine and Word
Of thy blessed Evangelist John,

It so may be guided to walk in thy ways,

And the light of thy truth to maintain,

That at length to the light, through Jesus, it might

Of life everlasting attain.

MERCIFUL LORD, we beseech thee to cast thy bright beams of light upon thy Church, that it being enlightened by the doctrine of thy blessed Apostle and Evangelist Saint John, may so walk in the light of thy truth, that it may at length attain to the light of everlasting life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE INNOCENTS' DAY.

FATHER ALMIGHTY, who strength has ordained
Out of mouths hanging still on the breast,
And madest the infants to glorify thee,

While cruelly sent to their rest;

All vices within us, O mortify, kill;

And strength by thy grace so accord,

That, by innocent lives and strength unto death,

We may glorify thee, blessed Lord.

O ALMIGHTY GOD, who out of the mouths of babes and sucklings hast ordained strength, and madest infants to glorify thee by their deaths; mortify and kill all vices in us, and so strengthen us by thy grace, that by the innocency of our lives, and constancy of our faith even unto death, we may glorify thy holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS DAY.

LMIGHTY GOD, who graciously hast given
Thy sole begotten Son to us from heaven

Upon Himself our nature to endure,
Born as at this time of a Virgin pure ;
Grant that regenerate, thy children we,

Made thine by grace, renewed may daily be

By thy good Spirit, Holy Ghost adored;

Through him the same, our Saviour Christ the Lord;
Who evermore one God, the same with thee,

Liveth and reigneth, now and eternally,

ALMIGHTY GOD, who hast given us thy only-begotten Son to take our nature upon him, and as at this time to be born of a pure Virgin; grant that we being regenerate, and made thy children by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by thy Holy Spirit; through the same our Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the same Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

THE CIRCUMCISION OF CHRIST,

GOD, who mad'st thy blessed Son

(Our Saviour Christ was He,)

Obedient to the law for man,

And circumcised to be:

O grant us of the Spirit, Lord,

The circumcision true,

That all our members and our hearts

May carnal lusts eschew:

That mortified from worldly sin,

In everything we may,

Through Him the same, our Saviour Christ,
Thy blessed will obey.
