Post Office Department.

The Postmaster-General has the direction and management of the Post Office Department. He appoints all officers and employees of the Department, except the four Assistant Postmasters-General, who are appointed by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate; appoints all postmasters whose compensation does not exceed one thousand dollars, makes postal treaties with foreign governments, by and with the advice and consent of the President, awards and executes contracts, and directs the management of the domestic and foreign mail service.

Department of Interior. The Secretary of the Interior is charged with the supervision of public business relating to patents for inventions, pensions and bounty lands, public lands and surveys, the Indians, education, railroads, the Geological Survey, the census. Hot Springs Reservation, Arkansas; Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, and the Yosemite, Sequoia and Gen. Grant Parks, California, and certain hospitals and eleemosynary institutions in the District of Columbia; distribution of appropriations for agricultural and mechanical colleges in the States and Territories, the custody and distribution of certain public documents. He also exercises certain powers and duties in relation to the Territories of the United States.

HOW TO SECURE The person desiring a copyright must on or before day of publication in this or foreign country, deliver at the office of the Librarian of Congress, or mail in United States to his address a printed copy of the book, map, chart. musical composition or picture; or a description of the painting, statue. statuary, model or design, if the copyright is desired for work of the fine arts. He must deliver at the office of the Librarian of Congress or deposit in the mail addressed to the Librarian of Congress, two copies or such copyright book or picture, etc.

The first copyright is good twenty-eight years. The benefits of copyright are available to American citizens in Belgium, Chile, Costa Rica, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain and her possessions (Australia, Canada, India, etc.), Italy, Mexico. Netherlands (Holland) and possessions. Portugal, Spain and Switzerland. Protection is not secured abroad by virtue of registration in this country. To be eligible for copyright a book or photograph Admission of Immigrants to the U. S.

must be printed from type set within the United States, or from plates made from them, or from negatives or drawings on stone, or from transfers made therefrom. The fees are:

1st-Fifty cents for recording title or description of any copyright; and

There is no fixed law regarding the qualifications of immigrants seeking admission to the U. S. The law is that no one shall be admitted to the U. S. who for want of any or all of the three qualifications named or others is apt to become a "public charge." This is at the discretion and judgment of the Immigrant Inspectors. If in
