THIS ancient and celebrated seat of learning, this city of palaces as it is often designated, can now be visited by Strangers from any part of the country, as the Railroad communication from Oxford connects itself with the main trunk lines of the kingdom. The GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY STATION is now removed to the west of this City, called the New Road, to facilitate the direct communication from Birmingham and the North through Oxford to London, and also to the South and West of England.

In May, 1851, the BUCKINGHAMSHIRE branch line was opened, which forms a junction with the LONDON AND NORTH WESTERN RAILWAY at Bletchley. The STATION is also situated on the New Road, west of Oxford: it was built by Messrs. Fox and Henderson, on the principle of the Crystal Palace. Omnibuses ply to and from the various Inns for both Stations, and the times of arrival and departure are correctly given in Bradshaw's Monthly Guide Books.

The Post Office is in St. Aldate's-street, under the Town Hall. Letters are forwarded to London every night, except Saturday; to other places, every night. In December, 1839, a day Mail was established, and by a recent regulation it was ordered, that the Box for the receipt of Letters should be closed as under :

Morning Mail to London, Abingdon, Reading, Maidenhead,
and Windsor; also Bath, Bristol, Gloucester, Cheltenham,
Stroud, Cirencester, Faringdon, and Chippenham
Mid-day Mall to Worcester through Woodstock, Enstone,
Chipping-Norton, Moreton-in-the-Marsh, &c.
