2 Oh, wondrous Promise! that not yet Has ceased to bear its precious fruit! From where that little Church first met, Unnumbered branches have found root! And unto each descending, God's Spirit is the same,
His Power and Love still blending, In Pentecostal flame!
3 Now, at this gladsome Whitsuntide. We see the gleaming banners spread! The Church is planted far and wide, With Christ, Her Corner-Stone and Head! And everywhere descending,
The Spirit bears His claim; Comfort and help still blending In Pentecostal flame!
4 The Spirit's quick'ning blessings reach To distant isles and heathen lands; And Apostolic heralds preach The seven-fold gifts to list'ning bands! While, at our Altars bending, With kindling zeal we pray; All prayers like incense blending, This holy Whitsun-Day.
5 Oh, Gracious Spirit, come to day And find Thy home in every heart! Be Comforter, and Guide, and Stay, All truth and purity impart!
That so when life is ending, And Whitsun-Days are done, Thy Light our souls attending,
May show us Three in One! Amen.
A Guide, a Com-fort-er, bequeathed With us to
2 He came in semblance of a dove With sheltering wings outspread, The holy balm of peace and love On earth to shed.
3 He came sweet influence to impart, A gracious, willing Guest, While He can find one humble heart Wherein to rest.
4 And His that gentle voice we hear, Soft as the breath of even, That checks each thought, that calms
And speaks of heaven. [each fear,
5 And every virtue we possess, And every victory won,
And every thought of holiness Are His alone.
6 Spirit of purity and grace,
Our weakness, pitying, see: O make our hearts Thy dwelling-place And meet for Thee.
7 O praise the Father; praise the Son; Blest Spirit, praise to Thee;
All praise to God, the Three in One, The One in Three. Amen.

Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee, Which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.
