Recapitulation of the United States and European Dépôts. THE HEMP AND JUTE MARKETS-1861. ANNUAL REVIEW OF THE Trade. By Messrs. WOOD & NICHOLS. Manilla Hemp.-The gradual depreciation of value that has marked the history of this article for several years, caused by an excessive stock, with constant additions, continued, with occasional spasmodic attempts to arrest it, through the first half of the year. Sales were made in the summer at 4 cents. Shipments from Manilla began to fall off, and appreciation here succeeded. It is probable that higher prices will rule the market for a long time to come. The receipts from the provinces of Manilla have fallen off so much that the exports will be light. At the close of the year there was nothing on the way to this country, and the prospective supply is small; meanwhile, business continues good, and the surplus, which has heretofore borne heavily on the market, will be absorbed before new lots supply the demand.
