faid, Ye Men of Athens, I perceive that in all Things ye

are too SUPERSTITIOUS.

23. For as I paffed by, and beheld your Devotions, I found an Altar with this Infcription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly wor fhip, him DECLARE I unto you.

24. GOD that MADE the WORLD, and ALL THINGS therein, feeing that he is Lord of HEAVEN and EARTH, dwelleth not in Temples made with HANDS:

25. Neither is WORSHIPPED With MENS HANDS, as though he NEEDED any thing, feeing he giveth to all LIFE, and BREATH, and ALL THINGS:

26. And hath MADE of ONE BLOOD, all NATIONS of Men, for to dwell on all the FACE of the EARTH, and hath determined the TIMES before appointed, and the BOUNDS of their HABITATION.

27. That they fhould feek the LORD, if haply they might feel after him, and FIND him, though he be not FAR from every one of us:

28. For in him we LIVE, and MOVE, and have our BɛING; as certain alfo of your own РORTS have said, For we are alfo his OFFSPRING.

29. Forafmuch then as we are the Offspring of God, we ought not to think that the GODHEAD is like unto Gold or Silver, or Stone graven by Art and Man's Device.

30. And the Times of this IGNORANCE God winked at; but now commandeth all Men every where to REPENT:

31. Because he hath appointed a DAY in the which he will JUDGE the WORLD in RIGHTEOUSNESS, by that MAN whom he hath ORDAINED; whereof he hath given Affurance unto all Men, in that he hath RAISED him from the Dead.

32. And when they heard of the RESURRECTION of the Dead, fome mocked: and others faid, We will hear thee again of this Matter.

33. So Paul departed from among them.

34. Howbeit, certain Men clave unto him, and believ ed: Among the which was Dionyfius the AREOPAGITE, and a Woman named Damaris, and others with them.

Afterwards paffing from City to City, he ftrengthneth the Difciples. 24. Apollos, being more perfectly inftructed by Aquila and Prifcilla, 28. preacheth Chrift with great Efficacy.

Ver. 1. AFTER thefe Things, Paul departed from

Athens, and came to Corinth;

2. And found a certain Few named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his Wife Prifcilla (becaufe that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome) and came unto them.

3. And because he was of the fame Craft, he abode with them, and wrought (for by their Occupation they were Tent-makers.)

4. And he reasoned in the Synagogue every Sabbath, and perfwaded the Jews, and the Greeks.

5. And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was preffed in Spirit, and TESTIFIED to the Jews, that Fefus was Chrift.

6. And when they oppofed themselves, and blafphemed, he fhook his Raiment, and faid unto them, Your Blood be upon your own Heads; I am clean: From henceforth I will Go unto the Gentiles.

7. And he departed thence, and entred into a certain Man's Houfe, named Fuftus, one that WORSHIPPED GOD, whofe Houfe joined hard to the Synagogue.

8. And Crifpus the chief Ruler of the Synagogue, BELIEVED on the Lord with all his Houfe: And many of the Corinthians hearing, BELIEVED, and were baptized.

9. Then fpake the Lord to Paul in the Night by a Vifion, Be not afraid, but fpeak, and hold not thy Peace: 10. For I am with thee, and no Man fhall fet on thee, to hurt thee: for I have much People in this City.

II. And he continued there a Year and fix Months, TEACHING the WORD of GOD among them.

12. And when Gallio was the Deputy of Achaia, the Fews made Infurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the Judgment Seat,

13. Say

13. Saying, This Fellow perfwadeth Men to worship God contrary to the Law.

14. And when Paul was now about to open his Mouth, Gallio faid unto the Jews, If it were a Matter of Wrong, or wicked Lewdnefs, O ye Jews, Reafon would that I fhould bear with you :

15. But if it be a Question of Words, and Names, and of your Law, look ye to it; for I will be no Judge of fuch Matters.

16. And he drave them from the Judgment Seat.

17. Then all the Greeks took Softhenes, the Chief Ruler of the Synagogue, and beat him before the Judgment Seat: And Gallio cared for none of thofe Things.

18. And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his Leave of the Brethren, and failed thence into Syria, and with him Prifcilla and Aquila: having fhorn his Head in Cenchrea: for he had a Vow.

19. And he came to Ephefus, and left them there: But he himself entred into the Synagogue, and reafoned with the Jews.

20. When they defired him to tarry longer Time with them, he confented not:

21. But bade them farewell, faying, I muft by all means keep this Feaft that cometh in Jerufalem: But I will return again unto you, if God will. And he failed from Ephejus.

22. And when he had landed at Cefarea, and gone up and faluted the Church, he went down to Antioch.

23. And after he had spent fome Time there, he deparied, and went over all the Country of Galatia and Phrygia, in order, ftrengthning all the Difciples.

24. And a certain Few named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an ELOQUENT Man, and MIGHTY in the SCRIPTURES, came to Ephefus.

25. This Man was INSTRUCTED in the WAY of the LORD; and being fervent in the SPIRIT, he fpake and taught diligently the Things of the Lord, knowing only the Baptifm of John.

26. And he began to fpeak boldly in the Synagogue. Whom when Aquila and Prifcilla had heard, they took him unto them, and EXPOUNDED unto him the WAY of GOD more perfectly.

27. And when he was difpofed to pafs into Achaia, the Brethren wrote, exhorting the Difciples to receive him:

Who

Who when he was come, helped them much which had believed through GRACE.

28. For he mightily CONVINCED the Jews, and that publickly, fhewing by the SCRIPTURES that Jesus was CHRIST.

CHAP. XIX.

6. The Holy Ghoft is given by Paul's Hands. 9. The Jews blafpheme his Doctrine, which is confirmed by Miracles. 13. The Jewish Exorcifts, 16. are beaten by the Devil. 19. Conjuring Books are burnt. 24. Demetrius, for love of Gain, raifeth an Uproar against Paul, 35. which is appeafed by the Town-Clerk.

3. And he faid unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they faid, Unto John's Baptifm.

4. Then faid Paul, John verily baptized with the Baptifm of REPENTANCE, faying unto the People, That they fhould BELIEVE on him which fhould come after him, that is, on Chrift Fefus.

5. When they heard this, they were baptized in the NAME of the Lord Jefus.

6. And when Paul had laid his Hands upon them, the HOLY GHOST came on them: and they fpake with Tongues, and prophefied.

10. And this continued by the Space of two Years; fo that all they which dwelt in Afia, HEARD the Word of the Lord Jefus, both Jews and Greeks.

11. And God wrought fpecial MIRACLES by the Hands

of Paul.

12. So that from his BODY were brought unto the Sick, Handkerchiefs or Aprons, and the Difeafes departed from them, and the EVIL SPIRITS went out of them.

13. Then certain of the vagabond Jews, Exorcifts, took upon them to call over them which had evil Spirits, the Name of the Lord Jefus, faying, We adjure you by Jefus, whom Paul preacheth.

14. And there were feven Sons of one Sceva a Jew, and chief of the Priefis, which did fo.

22. So he fent into Macedonia two of them that miniftred unto him, Timotheus, and Erastus; but he himself ftaid in Afia for a Seafon.
