PREFACE.

THE Editors of the "CHURCH SUNDAY SCHOOL MAGAZINE" cannot permit the last Number for 1850, to issue from the press without addressing a few words of thankfulness and gratitude to their readers, supporters, and contributors.

When a Magazine is conducted gratuitously, it cannot be expected to escape some faults which might be unpardonable, if the contributors were paid for their labour, but we can assure our readers that all attention shall be given to the improvement of our little work, such as the extent of patronage we have received so fully deserves.

While in the name of our readers, as well as in our own behalf, we return our thanks to our contributors, we feel sure that they will consider themselves amply repaid, by the consciousness of having done something for the edification and amusement of the younger members of the Church.

In tone and principle the Magazine cannot be improved. The tone we take from our dear and honoured Mother, the Church of England, and Her principles are our guide. In the manner of carrying out these principles, and in matter of detail, we are aware that improvement may be necessary, and may be fairly expected. No pains will be spared to place the teaching of the Church in a clear and interesting point of view, so that while giving instruction, we may at the same time engage the affections, and strengthen to Her, on the part of our younger brethren, that attachment which it is our endeavour to kindle and sustain.
