May I not be permitted, before I close this velume, to say to my own brethren, you are bound to support the truth in question, by all possible lawful means within your reach. You profess to believe both in its truth and importance. And I doubt not the sincerity of your profession. Your lives are not your own. Labour for God. Adorn your profession, by bringing forth the fruits of holiness, by a holy, zealous, unshaken attachment to the truth. Evince the genuine influence and tendency of the truths you believe, by a more devout, yea, a supreme love to the Redeemer, and ardent love and compassion for souls. If your views were acceptable to unregenerate men, you might justly suspect their truth. If "the carnal mind be enmity against God," doubtless all the truths of the gospel will be unacceptable to such a mind. Many are friendly to the Christian name, merely from ignorance of Christianity. What is not Christianity, will by such persons be patronized as Christianity. What bears a specious resemblance to that revelation of mercy, will be allowed to occupy its place. And many will look with pity, scorn, and contempt, on the men who should doubt the truth of the most anti-scriptural positions, or hesitate relative to their safety, who have embraced the most egregious errors. But your work is before you. Let not reproach or scorn intimidate you. The truth and its friends have nothing to fear. He who hung upon the cross will

stand by his faithful followers-he will succeed his own cause-he will subdue stubborn souls to the obedience of the faith-and he will accomplish all the good pleasure of his will. You know whither your Lord is gone. He has taken his station at the right hand of his Father, and your Father; he is there to superintend all his affairs in heaven and on the earth. Nor are you excluded his tenderest care, nor shall you want his gracious support, or his blessing, to crown your labours with abundant success. But whether success should crown our exertions or not, we must be instant in season and out of season. It is ours to endure all things in dependance on our Lord's kind intimation, that his grace is sufficient for us, and that his strength shall be made perfect in our weakness. At a future day, this shall be regarded as an abundant recompence, to have laboured in the integrity of our hearts, in order to make him known to our fellow-sinners, who bore their sorrow, and carried their shame. That day shall witness all the millions of the blood-bought church of God, singing the song of salvation, and "glory, and honour, and riches, and power, and wisdom, and strength, and blessing, unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and to the Lamb for ever." Rev. v. 12, 13.
