THE very hearty support given by the profession to the republication of “RANKING'S HALF-YEARLY ABSTRACT" in conjunction with the "AMERICAN JOURNAL OF THE MEDICAL SCIENCES," encourages the publisher in the expectation that he will be able to render the enterprise a permanent one. He therefore has the pleasure to offer, for the year 1870, a continuance of the very liberal terms of 1869, viz :— THE AMERICAN JOURNAL OF THE MEDICAL SCIENCES, with OR, For Five Dollars a JYear in advance. THE AMERICAN JOURNAL OF THE MEDICAL SCIENCES, with For Six Dollars a THE AMERICAN JOURNAL OF THE MEDICAL SCIENCES, subject to postage when not paid for in advance, FIVE DOLLARS. THE MEDICAL NEWS AND LIBRARY, One Dollar per annum in advance. RANKING'S HALF-YEARLY ABSTRACT, Two Dollars and a half per annum, in advance, or One Dollar and a half per volume. For the very moderate price of SIX DOLLARS per annum, the subscriber will therefore receive, free of postage, three periodicals of the highest character-a monthly, a quarterly, and a half yearly-costing separately Eight Dollars and a half, and containing in all over Two THOUSAND LARGE OCTAVO PAGES. In view of the existing high cost of manufacture, these terms are believed to be without precedent in medical journalism. It is only by a very large circulation that so vast an amount of valuable practical reading matter can be afforded at so low a price; but his long connection with the profession encourages the publisher to hope that the support thus far extended to these periodicals will be maintained, and that the friendly interest mani. fested by so many gentlemen in inducing their friends to subscribe will be continued. During the past year the accessions to the subscription list have been large, and a renewal and extension of the same manifestation of professional favor are confidently anticipated for the coming year. The profession may rely that no efforts on the part of the Editor or Publisher will be wanting to render these journals worthy a continuance of the distinguished reputation which they have so long enjoyed. The work-SMITH on the "WASTING DISEASES OF CHILDREN"-which has occupied the " Library Department" of the "MEDICAL NEWS" since January, 1869, will be concluded in the December number. With January, 1870, will be commenced another volume of equal practical value, which subscribers to the "AMERICAN JOURNAL OF THE MEDICAL SCIENCES" can thus secure free of cost. Gentlemen desiring to avail themselves of the terms thus offered are requested to remit their advance subscriptions early, as but a limited number of RANKING'S ABSTRACT is printed, and the publisher has frequently been unable to supply those who were late in their application. Where postal money orders are procurable, they form the safest mode of remittance. Where they cannot be had, the publisher will assume the risk of subscriptions sent by mail if forwarded in registered letters. Address HENRY C. LEA, Nos. 706 and 708 Sansom St., Philadelphia.
