En ellos había tomado su curso de una manera franca i consoladora cierto movimiento intelectual iniciado tres anos antes, que despuntaba entonces por la afici°n a la poesia i un gran anhelo de aprender i de saber: Nuestra edu cacion habia sido limitadísima i descuidada hasta el punto de no tener coherencia, ni objeto, ni plan que pudieran llamarse científicos. L°s jefes del Instituto Naci°nal comenzaban entonces a penetrarse de esta realidad i a introducir una reforma séria.
