not be moved? Who would not think a great injury and wrong done unto him? Wherefore, moft dearly beloved in Christ, take ye good heed, left ye, withdrawing yourfelves from this holy Supper, provoke God's indignation against you. It is an easy matter for a man to fay, I will not communicate, because I am otherwife hindered with worldly business. But fuch excufes are not so easily accepted and allowed before God. If any man fay, I am a grievous finner, and therefore am afraid to come : wherefore then do ye not repent and amend? When God calleth you, are ye not ashamed to say ye will not come? When ye fhould return to God, will ye excufe yourselves, and fay ye are not ready? Confider earnestly with yourselves how little fuch feigned excufes will avail before God. They that refused the feast in the Gospel, because they had bought a farm, or would try their yokes of oxen, or because they were married, were not so excused, but counted unworthy of the heavenly feast. I, for my part, shall be ready; and, according to mine office, I bid you in the Name of God, I call you in Christ's behalf, I exhort you, as ye love your own falvation, that ye will be partakers of this holy Communion. And as the Son of God did vouchfafe to yield up his Soul by death upon the Cross for your salvation; so it is your duty to receive the Communion in remembrance of the facrifice of his death, as He himself hath commanded: which if ye shall neglect to do, consider with yourselves how great injury ye do unto God, and how fore punishment hangeth over your heads for the fame; when ye wilfully abstain from the Lord's Table, and separate from your brethren, who come to feed on the banquet of that moft heavenly Food. These things if ye earnestly confider, ye will by God's grace return to a better mind: for the obtaining whereof we shall not cease to make our humble petitions unto Almighty God our heavenly Father.

Then fhall the Priest re-turn to the Lord's Table, and begin the Offertory, faying one or more of thefe Sentences following, as he thinketh most convenient in his discretion.

L

ET your light fo fhine before men, that they may fee your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Lay not up for yourselves treasure upon the earth; where the ruft and moth doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and fteal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven; where neither ruft nor moth doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through and fteal.

Whatsoever ye would that men fhould do unto you, even fo do unto them; for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Not every one that faith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the Kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Zacchæus ftood forth, and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have done any wrong to any man, I reftore four-fold.

Who goeth a warfare at any time of his own cost? Who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? Or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?

If we have fown unto you fpiritual things, is it a great matter if we shall reap your worldly things?

Do ye not know, that they who minister about holy things live of the facrifice; and they who wait at the Altar are partakers with the Altar? Even fo hath the Lord alfo ordained, that they who preach the Gospel should live of the Gospel.

He that foweth little fhall reap little; and he that foweth plenteously fhall reap plenteously. Let every man do according as he is difpofed in his heart, not grudgingly, or of neceffity; for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Let him that is taught in the word minifter unto him. that teacheth, in all good things. Be not deceived, God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man foweth that shall

he reap.

While we have time, let us do good unto all men; and specially unto them that are of the houfhold of faith.

Godliness is great riches, if a man be content with that he hath for we brought nothing into the world, neither may we carry anything out.

Charge them who are rich in this world, that they be ready to give, and glad to distribute; laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may attain eternal life.

God is not unrighteous, that He will forget your works, and labour that proceedeth of love; which love ye have fhewed for his Name's fake, who have miniftered unto the faints, and yet do minister.

To do good, and to diftribute, forget not; for with such facrifices God is well pleased.

Whofo hath this world's good, and feeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his compaffion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

Give alms of thy goods, and never turn thy face from any poor man; and then the face of the Lord fhall not be turned away from thee.

Be merciful after thy power. If thou haft much, give plenteously: if thou haft little, do thy diligence gladly to give of that little for fo gathereft thou thyself a good reward in the day of neceffity.

He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord : and look, what he layeth out, it shall be paid him again.

Bleffed be the man that provideth for the fick and needy: the Lord shall deliver him in the time of trouble. After the Priest has faid the Offertory, let him receive the Bread and Wine, placing the Paten with the Bread on the top of the Chalice (and uncovering the Ciborium). Having inclined, let him with both hands flightly raise the Chalice, with the Paten and Bread on the top, faying:

Receive O Holy Trinity this oblation which I offer Thee in memory of the paffion of our Lord Jefus Chrift, and grant that being acceptable in thy fight, it may ascend to Thee and avail for the eternal falvation of me, and of all the faithful, through Christ our Lord.

Having faid this let him replace the Chalice, making the fign of the Crofs with it; let him remove the Paten, Jetting it in front of the Chalice, and cover the Chalice with the Pall. (He covers the Ciborium with its lid, and puts it behind the Chalice.)

This done let him blefs the incenfe as before, and cenfe the Sacrifice, faying:

Let my prayer, O Lord, be fet forth in thy fight as the incenfe.

Then let the Priest be cenfed, after which let him go to the Epifle fide of the Altar and wash his fingers, saying: Cleanse me O Lord from all defilement of mind and body, that fo I may perform the holy work of the Lord.

Then let the Priest return, and bowing down before the midst of the Altar, with hands joined, fay:

In the spirit of humility and with contrite heart may we be accepted of Thee, O Lord; and may our facrifice be fo offered in thy fight as to be accepted of Thee this day, and be well pleafing to Thee, O Lord God, (Here let him kifs the Altar on the right of the Sacrifice, and give the benediction over the Sacrifice, and fign himself, Jaying:) in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghoft. Amen.

Then let the Priest turn towards the people and fay
in a low voice:

Brethren and fifters, pray for me that this our common Sacrifice may be accepted by the Lord our God.

The Clerks anfwer privately:

The Grace of the Holy Ghoft enlighten thy heart and thy lips, and the Lord graciously accept this Sacrifice of praise at thy hands for our fins and offences.

When the Prieft offers the alms, let him fay privately:

Receive, O Holy Trinity, the offerings of thy people, as Thou didst the alms of Cornelius and the widow's mite, and accept them through Jesus Christ our Lord.

¶ After which done, the Prieft [facing eaft] fhall fay [with hands extended]:

Let us pray for the whole state of Christ's Church militant here in earth.

ALMI

LMIGHTY and everliving God, who by thy holy Apostle haft taught us to make prayers, and fupplications, and to give thanks, for all men; We humbly

C

befeech Thee moft mercifully to accept our (alms and) oblations, and to receive these our prayers, which we offer unto thy divine Majefty; befeeching Thee to infpire continually the universal Church with the spirit of truth, unity, and concord: And grant, that all they that do confefs thy holy Name may agree in the truth of thy holy Word, and live in unity, and godly love. We beseech thee also to fave and defend all Chriftian Kings, Princes, and Governours; and specially thy Servant Victoria our Queen; that under her we may be godly and quietly governed: And grant unto her whole Council, and to all that are put in authority under her, that they may truly and indifferently minifter juftice, to the punishment of wickedness and vice, and to the maintenance of thy true religion, and virtue. Give grace, O heavenly Father, to all Bishops and Curates [. . . . .], that they may both by their life and doctrine fet forth thy true and lively Word, and rightly and duly adminifter thy holy Sacraments: And to all thy people give thy heavenly grace [. . . . .]; and efpecially to this congregation here prefent; that, with meek heart and due reverence, they may hear, and receive thy holy Word; truly ferving Thee in holiness and righteousness all the days of their life. And we most humbly befeech thee of thy goodness, O Lord, to comfort and fuccour all them, who in this tranfitory life are in trouble, forrow, need, fickness, or any other adversity [....]. And we alfo blefs thy holy Name for all thy fervants departed this life in thy faith and fear [... . .]; befeeching thee to give us grace fo to follow their good examples, that, with them, we may be partakers of thy heavenly kingdom: Grant this, O Father, (he joins his hands:) for Jefus Christ's fake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

At the time of the celebration of the Communion the Prieft may fay this Exhortation.

D'

EARLY beloved in the Lord, ye that mind to come to the holy Communion of the Body and Blood of our Saviour Chrift, must consider how Saint Paul exhorteth all perfons diligently to try and examine themselves, before they prefume to eat of that Bread,
