and West Africa, while imports from the remainder of Africa other than the Mediterranean area recorded an increase of $5,300,000.

Our exports to British South Africa, mainly the Union of South Africa, increased from $28,400,000 in 1923 to $36,000,000 in 1924, or by 26 per cent. Imports from British South Africa, however, fell off from $13,400,000 to $7,700,000. The notable increase in exports is due principally to the favorable economic conditions which prevailed as a result of the activity of the South African mining industries.
