BOARD OF CONTROL

The regular meeting of the board of control was called at 10:00 a. m. Friday, June 28, 1918.

Present: Directors Bernstein, Beman, Sprosty, Neal and Farrell.

Absent: Mayor Davis and Directors FitzGerald and Waite.

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as presented, and on motion of the acting president the following resolutions were adopted:

RESOLUTIONS

File No. 5638.
By Mr. FitzGerald.

Resolved, by the board of control, that the commissioner of purchases and supplies be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to purchase the following described real estate from the owners of the parcel hereinafter stated and needed for the opening and extension of Carnegie ave., from E. 89th st. to E. 107th st. N. S.: Parcel 17: Situated in the city of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga and state of Ohio, and known as being the northerly 30 feet from front to rear of sublot No. 3 in Lydia Barber's allotment of part of original one hundred acre lots Nos. 401 and 409, as shown by the recorded plat in volume 5 of maps, page 51 of Cuyahoga county records, and being a parcel of land 30 feet front on the easterly side of Logan ave. (now known as E. 96th st.), 219 feet 5 inches deep on the northerly line, about 220 feet 2 inches deep on the southerly line and 30 feet in the rear, as appears by said plat, be the same more or less, but subject to all legal highways.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 1, 1918

Said parcel of land contains residence now known as No. 2087 E. 96th st. and is the property of Mrs. Elizabeth Guthrie the owner of an undivided two-thirds (2/) interest therein, and Walter F. Guthrie the owner of an undivided one-third (1/3) interest therein. The consideration to be paid therefor is eight thousand one hundred dollars ($8,100.00).

That the commissioner of purchases and supplies be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to expend an amount not to exceed $8,100.00 for the purchase of parcel No. 17, above described; said money to be paid out of the funds derived from the sale of bonds authorized by ordinance No. 45907 and entitled "An ordinance to issue bonds in the sum of $400,000.00 to pay the cost and expense of opening, widening, extending and improving Carnegie ave. S. E., from E. 89th st. to E. 107th st. N. E., and for purchasing or condemning any land necessary therefor;" that said commissioner of purchases and supplies be, and he is hereby authorized to pay the sum aforesaid to the owners of the above described parcel of land, upon delivery to the city of Cleveland of a good and sufficient warranty deed and certificate of title showing said premises to be free and clear of all encumbrances whatsoever, excepting the taxes and assessments for the year 1918 and thereafter, and to the satisfaction of the director of law.

'Resolved, by the board of control, that the director of public service be and he is hereby authorized and directed into subsidiary agreement No. 930, with A. M. Pejsa Paving Company, making certain additions to and amending contract No. 11842, in the sum of $1,876.75, covering the re-paving of Woodhill rd., from Quincy ave. to Buckeye rd.

Resolved, by the board of control, that subsidiary agreement No. 924, with A. Marra, making certain additions to and amending contract No. 11423, in the sum of $231.75, covering the construction of a sewer in Way ave. S. E., from E. 93rd st. to E. 105th st., be and the same is hereby approved.

Resolved, by the board of control, that subsidiary agreement No. 923, with Randall & Cooper, making certain additions to and amending contract No. 11783, in the sum of $20.26, covering the construction of a sewer in W. 117th st., from Berea rd. N. W. to 700 feet north of Berea rd. N. W., be and the same is hereby approved.

Resolved, by the board of control, that the commissioner of purchases and supplies be an dhe is hereby authorized and directed to lease the south half of the double brick house known as No. 2511 E. 35th st. to be used as a dispensary under the division of health, department of public welfare;

Be it further resolved, that the commissioner of purchases and supplies be and he is hereby authorized to lease said property for a rental of forty-five dollars ($45.00) per month for a term of three (3) years. commencing July 1, 1918, and ending June 30, 1921, said rental to be payable out of the funds provided for the usual general operation of the division of health.

Resolved. by the board of control, that the director of public safety. be and he is hereby authorized and directed to enter into a contract with the Hazard Manufacturing Company, Wilkesbarre, Pa., lowest and best bidder, May 17th, 1918, for furnishing and delivering underground lead cable for the division of fire alarm system, department of public safety, in accordance with its bid of one thousand, eight hundred thirty-seven dollars and forty-two cents ($1,837.42).

Resolved, by the board of control, that subsidiary agreement No. 919 modifying contract 11844 with Kelley-Demarest Construction Co. for concrete work for extension of the municipal power plant and providing for additional excavating and concrete work for coal storage, in the sum of eight thousand nine hundred dollars ($8,900.00) be and the same is hereby approved.
