Simple, teachable and mild,
Humble as a little child,
Ev'ry evil let me flee;
Father, fix my soul on thee.
O that all may seek and find
Ev'ry good in Jesus join'd!
Him let Israel still adore,

Trust him, praise him, evermore.

PSALM CXXXII.

ARISE, O King of grace, arise,
And enter to thy rest?

Lo! thy church waits with longing eyes,
Thus to be own'd and blest.

Enter with all thy glorious train,
Thy Spirit and thy word;
All that the ark did once contain,
Could no such grace afford.

Here, mighty God, accept our vows,
Here let thy praise be spread;
Bless the provisions of thy house,
And fill thy poor with bread.

Here let the Son of David reign;
Let God's anointed shine;

Justice and truth his court maintain,
With love and pow'r divine.

Here let him hold a lasting throne;
And as his kingdom grows,
Fresh honors shall adorn his crown,
And shame confound his foes.

PSALM CXXXIII.

BEHOLD! how glorious is the sight!
How pleasant and divine!
When brethren's hearts in love unite,
And friends in concord join.

"Tis like the oil on Aaron's head,
The rich perfume how sweet!
Which o'er his beard and garment spread,
Down flowing to his feet.

So oft, where Hermon meets the sky,
And clothes its top with dews,
The clouds toward Zion's mountains fly,
And fruitful showers diffuse.

Zion, thy state securely stands,
Exalted o'er thy foes:

His blessing there the Lord commands,
And endless life bestows.

PSALM CXXXIV.

BEHOLD his wond'rous grace!
And bless Jehovah's name :

Ye servants of the Lord, his praise
By day and night proclaim.

Ye who his courts attend,
There lift your hands on high,
And let your songs of praise ascend,
In strains of sacred joy.

He form'd the earth below,

He form'd the heav'ns his throne: His grace from Zion he'll bestow, And pour his blessings down.

PSALM CXXXV.

PRAISE ye the Lord; aloud proclaim
The glories of Jehovah's name :
Ye servants of th' eternal Lord,
His honours in your songs record.

Ye saints, who worship in his house,
Present your pray'rs, and pay your vows,
And, rais'd to solemn sounds of joy,
Your voices in his courts employ.

Praise ye the Lord; his goodness reigns
O'er all creation's ample plains;
While 'tis his name your notes prolong,
How sweet the music and the song!

Once Israel was his chosen care,
He fix'd his choicest treasure there;
And still, peculiar in his sight,
His Church is his supreme delight.

PSALM CXXXVI.

GIVE to our God immortal praise;
Mercy and truth are all his ways:
Wonders of grace to God belong,
Repeat his mercies in your song.
He fills the sun with morning light,
He bids the moon direct the night:
His mercies ever shall endure,

When suns and moons shall shine no more.

He sent his Son with pow'r to save
From guilt, and darkness, and the grave:
Wonders of grace to God belong,

Repeat his mercies in your song.

Through this vain world he guides our feet,
And leads us to his heav'nly seat:
His mercies ever shall endure,
When this vain world shall be no more.

PSALM CXXXVII.

WHEN we, our wearied limbs to rest, Sat down by proud Euphrates' stream; We wept, with doleful thoughts opprest, And Sion was our mournful theme.

Our harps, that, when with joy we sung, Were wont their tuneful parts to bear, With silent strings neglected hung,

On willow trees which wither'd there.

Meanwhile our foes, who all conspir'd, To triumph in our slavish wrongs, Music and mirth of us requir'd,

66 Come, sing us one of Zion's songs." How shall we tune our voice to sing Or touch our harps with skilful hands? Shall hymns of joy to God our King, Be sung by slaves in foreign lands? O Salem, our once happy seat! When I of thee forgetful prove, Let then my trembling hand forget, The speaking strings with art to move. If I to mention thee forbear,

Eternal silence seize my tongue : Or if I sing one cheerful air,

Till thy deliv'rance is my song:

PSALM CXXXVIII.

WITH all my pow'rs thy name I'll sing,
Thy name I'll praise, immortal King!
Let princes join, and angels hear:
My pray'r, directed to the skies,
Shall towards thy holy temple rise,
For Christ, my advocate, is there.

Thy truth and mercy I'll record;
Thy truth, my God, exalts thy word,
O'er all the wonders of thy name :
